Starring Albert Sharpe as an Old Irishman named "Darby", Janet Munro as Darby's daughter "Katie", Sean Connery as the young, new caretaker "Michael McBride" and Jimmy O'Dea as the Leprechaun "King Brian". Sean Connery fans will enjoy seeing him in one his first hit movies.
Darby O'Gill works as a Caretaker on Lord Fitzpatrick's estate and lives in a nearby cottage, with his daughter, Katie. A small Irish town, Darby has taken to telling tales of Leprechauns at the Irish Pub.
The handsome, young Sean Connery is Mr. McBride hired to replace Darby as caretaker. With a name like McBride isn't it ironically that Katie is old enough to be married. I love Katie's fiery Irish spirit but won't get into her and Mr. McBride's storyline, which does add a nice touch to the plot. I don't want to give it all away; I want you to watch this movie!
The real action starts when Darby is captured by the little people. He tricks the Leprechauns and escapes, as does the gold he tried to take from their treasure. King Brian returns angry at Darby for bamboozling him. Darby manages to fool the Leprechaun again by getting him drunk so he will be powerless until the next sunset. King Brian is trapped and Darby demands three wishes before he will release him. The fun begins as Darby's wishes backfire on him. Seriousness ensues with the death coach but the wit of the Leprechaun saves Darby and gives King Brian the last laugh.
I have easily watched this 15 times and it's the perfect movie for St. Patrick's Day. I love the cheesy song that Sean and Janet lip-sing too and the fun dancing and music at the Leprechaun Court. It received 4 ½ stars out of 5 from 155 customer reviews on Amazon; only 4 disliked the movie. Fans of old movies will likely classify Darby O'Gill a classic.

Wow that brings back memories! I haven't seen this one since I was a kid but I totally remember the ending and a few other key parts. Didn't even realize it was Sean Connery in that film (I didn't pay attention to famous people til I became and adult). Thanks for the reminder of this fun family flick!
