Perfect Fit

Written 11/30/2006 for My Son

Perfect Fit (a tentative title)

The blanket in which I once swaddled you
now no longer can enfold your body
The cap which once warmed your precious head
now seems more like a hat made for a doll.
Once I felt you moving inside me,
a reminder of the miracle within.
Once I held you for the very first time
captivated by your glory, in awe of life
(you gazed into my eyes so calmly
as we drank up each other's beauty)
I remember how you fit perfectly
into the crook of my arm
drunken with the sweetness of my milk
your rolling eyes proof of its euphoric trance.

I saved the blanket and the cap,
memories of tender moments past
Now you move about the world as I
commit your gait to memory to play it back
Years later I will still recall
with neverfading fondness & bittersweet nostalgia
how you ran to me, arms open wide
and smiling, just for a quick hug and kiss
(you lean into me and gaze up bright-eyed
as we drink up the comfort of each other's prescense)
Your body is not so tiny now, but still fits
snugly against the curves of mine as we drift

your poems are beautiful.I think i'll get more of my own on here, afterall, they mean much more than even what they mean to me, when they are enjoyed by others.
