Perfect Getaway - Movie Review of a Thriller with a Twist

Outdoor Hiking Movie that Will Keep You on the Edge of Your Seat

Ranee Wright
A suspenseful honeymoon hiking expedition is what you can expect from A Perfect Getaway (Rated R). Starring Steve Zahn (Cliff), and Milla Jovovich (Cydney) Cliff's new wife. They are an adventurous young newlywed couple hiking an 11 mile secluded, mountainous trail in Hawaii.

The suspense begins when the couple picks up a hitchhiking couple. With amazing picturesque waterfall views along with Hawaiian beaches and mountains the couple soon learn of a grizzly murder that recently took place not far from where they are hiking.

Cliff and Cydney then meet Nick (Timothy Olyphant -who I had confused at first with the equally hot, Billy Zahn) and his girlfriend, Gina (Kiele Sanchez). Nick is an ex-military man and Gina is a free-spirit. The two couples team up on their hiking expedition and the thrilling twist begins.

A Perfect Getaway was directed by David Twohy (The Fugitive, GI Jane, Waterworld). It was released in theaters in August and on DVD in December 2009.

Without going any further into what happens in the movie, I will focus on what you can take away from the film. Be careful who you trust. Appearances are not always what they seem just like looks are only skin deep. People form opinions quickly of someone with dread locks or a man with long hair. How one is dressed makes a statement and leads others to stereotype you. How easily people are fooled by appearances.

Another lesson A Perfect Getaway teaches is to be prepared before taking on Mother Nature. Too often people set out on a journey without proper preparation. Always anticipate the worst scenario and be equipped with survival tools.

Another outdoor hiking movie I recommend is The Edge, starring Adam Baldwin and Anthony Hopkins. They become stranded in the Alaskan wilderness and it is a thrill a minute.
