My son is getting married at the end of the summer and he is going down to Destin, FL to tie the knot. I couldn't be happier for him and his bride and couldn't imagine a more perfect place to commit to a life together than by the beautiful Gulf waters of the Emerald Coast. I can't imagine anything more romantic and perfect than wedding in with God's creations as a backdrop. They can say their vows outside and then celebrate with friends and family at any one of the beautiful hotels or inns right on the beach. They will probably not have a large reception but I am exploring places they may want to look at. Some that I found are too large, but all of them would be ideal for different purposes. Remember that many reception venues must be booked at least a month ahead, so plan now.

The Sandestin Beach Hilton is an impressive place indeed. There are a lot of options here--elegant ballroom, lovely outdoor patio and deck, the beach, or the courtyard. The deck, courtyard or beach would be more romantic, the ballrooms more elegant and impressive. They have world-class catering and spa service for bride and groom for intimate time together after festivities. Henderson Beach State Park is a place that will appeal to people who want an outdoor wedding for a romantic natural setting. Located at the eastern edge of Destin, it lies between scenic 98 and Emerald Coast Parkway. It's right on the beach and you'll be surrounded by the natural settings of palmettos, scrub oaks with haunting Spanish Moss, beach rosemary and beautiful coastal dunes covered with sea oats. The pavilions accommodate 100 and more and rent for $100 per day. Get reservations in as quickly as possible, because they don't take reservations after May 1, during the busy summer season.

Marina Cafe and Grill is right on the beautiful Destin Harbor. What could be more romantic and festive than watching the sun set on the water with the sails of regal boats going by? This is the sort of location that would give an overall feel of romantic chic. It's perfect for a more casual, laid back reception without the elegance of a place like the Sandestin Beach Hilton.

Between the plush Seaside and Grayton, A Highlands House offers a venue that is both romantic and shabby chic. The inn itself is a Louisiana, antebellum-style home right on the beach and water, surrounded with Old Florida cottages. The inn sleeps 20-26 guests, so the reception party can take beach walks in the moonlight after festivities. They are completely set up for weddings and receptions. A two-day event costs$9,084.80, but I'd give them a call to see about accommodations for one night or just for the reception.

The Harbor Grill at the Destin Yacht Club on the Harbor will be ideal for presenting a reception that emits an atmosphere of exquisitely romantic sophistication.
