Taru Mehta
Our body needs the internal cleaning as it keeps on continuously operating for years together without any real break. There are in all six procedures to clean and purify our internal organs as mentioned in the Yoga. One of these processes is called Dhoti Kriya. This yogic practice can bring you lots of benefits if performed on regular basis periodically. It is slightly difficult to perform this practice but some practice and the determination to do it can bring the outstanding results. It must be performed around two times per month or so in the beginning.

This process comprises of swallowing the smooth, white, linen clothe to size of 7 meters by 8 centimeters, soaked in salt water, and then taking it out slowly. This bandage-shaped cloth must be washed thoroughly with hot water before its use. The cloth must be kept in full of cup, which is full of dilute salt solution for around half an hour. Take one end of the cloth and put it in to the mouth. Then swallow it slowly by chewing, inserting it all the way up to your stomach. Be very careful to do this very gradually. Initially try to swallow only one meter of cloth, slowly increasing it over the period. After inserting the cloth in your stomach, pull it out by holding its other end very slowly. If the difficulties are experienced in the beginning in swallowing the cloth, apply the cloth with milk or honey so as to make swallowing process easier. The stomach impurities come out by doing this yogic kriya. The diseases like asthma, cough, headache, fever, leprosy, and all types of lever diseases are fully cured by this procedure.

If anybody finds it real difficult to swallow the clothe due to vomiting sensations, there is one other way of doing this purification process, which is known as Kunjal Kriya. This procedure involves drinking of around 2 to 3 liters of salted water on totally empty stomach and then vomiting out by putting your fingers in your mouth. You may continue till 2 to 3 vomits occur, thus emptying the stomach completely. In case of food poisoning, this is the very effective procedure, as it tends to throw out all the poisonous elements present in stomach and other digestive organs. Though such procedures appear very strange and odd, the same have been tried and proved beyond the doubts in the science of Yoga. The individual can perform any one practice out of the two as per his own choice.

There is one word of caution before performing this Kriya. It must not be performed by the heart patients and those having weak intestines or have undergone a major surgery of any digestive organ. However, the healthy persons can perform this act once every fortnight. There are many benefits of doing this act regularly. This practice cures diseases like indigestion, jaundice, food poisoning, worms, obesity, and makes one feel very light and full of energy at all times. It makes the individual very strong and he can remain healthy all through his life without any ailments. One can learn this practice in any yoga shibirs held by renowned yoga gurus. It is suggested not to practice this purification technique without the close supervision of a capable and knowledgeable Yoga guru. Once you are used to doing this practice without any problems, you are guaranteed to derive multiple benefits that cannot be quantified in physical units. I have myself have been benefited tremendously by this practice and hence, have absolutely no hesitation in recommending it to one and all. However, it must be practiced with the precautions as indicated in my article above.
