So Who's Playing at the American Music Awards? You might be surprised at the answer. 2010 has been a year of exceptional music diversity for the AMAs and the musical guest performances reflect that diversity in spades.
New Kids on the Block are still together and going strong. The 1980s boy band will be coming together with The Backstreet Boys, a 1990s boy band, for a live performance at the American Music Awards. AMA producer Larry Klein said of the event, "New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys on one stage is something special. Moments like these are what the AMAs are all about." New Kids on the Block started a worldwide phenomenon in 1988 with the release of "Hangin' Tough" shooting to #1 on the International Music Charts. They went on to give us "Step by Step", "Cover Girl" and "You've Got It (The Right Stuff)". The Backstreet Boys gained fame multiple music hits stateside and internationally including "I want it that way", "I'll never break your heart", "Quit playing games with my heart" and "Just Want You to Know".
The combined performance of NKOTB and the Backstreet Boys might be something special but they will have some competition for most memorable stage show with Pink performing for the AMAs too. Pink, recently announced to be pregnant, has often put on an incredible stage show for huge music events. During her Grammy performance she floated through above the audience doing an air dance with sheets, glitter and water while belting out her song "Sober". It is doubtful her performance with include acrobatics such as air dancing since she is currently expecting but a great performance should be expected none-the-less.
Kid Rock's performance at the American Music Awards could be anything from loud and raunchy to patriotic and poetic. Rock is best known for his rapper rock style but in recent years he has taken on a more bluesy soulful country style. He has proven over an over again that he can rock with any genre of music. His newest album "Born Free" was released on November 16th. It is likely he will perform one of the songs from it. One can only hope that Bog Seger and Sheryl Crow join him on stage to perform "Collide" from the "Born Free" studio album.
Other performances at the AMAs to look for include performances by Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, Rihanna, Carlos Santana with Gavin Rossdale, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Bon Jovi.
The American Music Awards will be broadcast live from the NOKIA Theater on November 21st on ABC at 8pm ET.
