Whenever you feel like clearing your conscience, or performing a random act of kindness, and you don't feel that you have the resources to make a positive difference, think again! You can help out someone, even if it is just a small act of kindness. Every small positive step adds up to make a significant difference. If you want to directly donate, you can find countless charities that accept PayPal as a form of payment. At the Red Cross site, you can choose from among many different efforts.
You can learn new words, cities, countries, and practice math - all while donating rice at FreeRice. Every correct answer results in a donation of 10 grains of rice to needy people around the world. Imagine how much would be donated if everyone played five minutes every day. Although 10 grains doesn't seem like much, if you allow young children to practice their math skills or French on here they will have fun and be helping out without even noticing. This website is legitimate, and you're learning new things anyway, so don't worry about it.
Another way to help others online is by giving advice and spreading knowledge. You can help answer other people's questions or give encouragement on forums, chat rooms, and question/answer sites such as Yahoo! Answers. You can also submit useful how-to guides or information on websites such as Associated Content, Helium, Squidoo, Epinions, and eHow(wink wink, nudge nudge, smirk smirk).
If you know how to barbecue really well, or fix cars, or make origami or sew something, you can show the world through YouTube. You can shed light on social issues that concern you. People have been using YouTube for long-distance learning for quite some time now. For example, I learned how to whistle loudly using it, and also saw but haven't yet learned how to fold a t-shirt in under five seconds. There are many educational videos out there for learning everything under the sun.
Another great way to help others is to write or edit for Wikipedia - you can improve articles, start new pages, or just upload some good pictures you took. Wikipedia is always growing and depends on people like us to keep it at a high standard. Furthermore, if you have a special interest, you can write even an e-book and sell it or if you want to be more charitable you can give it away for free
If you want to save others from a particular bad habit, the internet is a great way to spread awareness. There are many anti-smoking, anti-pornography, anti-poverty, and anti-drug sites to support.
If you have experience and have learned the hard way, help someone else by showing them. We should not belittle our own voice, for perhaps there is someone out there who will benefit.
