Perkins Restaurant and Bakery

Perkins Restaurant and Bakery is a large chain restaurant serving home-style food. They can be found in thirty-four states as well as several in Canada. The local one for me is at 3-A Gateway Blvd. S., Savannah, Georgia 31419, (912)961-0424. It is very easy to find. If you are on I-95 it is exit 94. You turn towards Savannah, right if you were headed north and left if you were on south I-95. It is there immediately on your right hand side, with the Quality Inn.

Perkins is probably best known for its breakfast items. My family and I do enjoy their home-style, comfort food meals. They have a varied breakfast menu that is served all day. They also have a wide variety of dinner selections on their menu. From sandwiches to dinner plates there is something on there for everyone's taste. On our most recent visit we even saw they had several new salad selections, to include a Thai Salad.

The kids menu offers a great deal of variety and the kids are able to switch out fries for fruit. My girls in particular like this option. They enjoy the macaroni and cheese as well as the grilled cheese. The kid's macaroni and cheese is not the box type, but the old fashioned variety.

Favorites off the adult menus are the open faced turkey sandwich. They will gladly switch out the mashed potatoes with french fries. I always ask for a side of their brown gravy which is great for the dip your fries in instead of ketchup. The boys always go for their hamburgers, which are large and come with a variety of toppings to include a favorite of BBQ Bacon Supreme.

We have visited this particular Perkins restaurant several times at different times of the day. Their wait staff is always courteous no matter if they are packed or if we are the only ones in the restaurant. They have always been great with the kids. They bring them flexible straws and are always making sure they have enough to drink. The wait from time of order to get our food has never been very long at all. The Perkins in Savannah has a relaxed atmosphere with an eclectic décor of lighthouses and paintings that remind you of the nearby coastline. The entrance of the restaurant is just down the hallway from the desk to the Quality Inn, but it is orderly and well kept.

Their bakery is also wonderful. With every kids meal they get a half and half cookie. This is a cookie that is half chocolate chip and half sugar cookie. They also have a variety of other cookies to pick from to include a yummy white chocolate macadamia nut cookie. There is also a wide variety of pies. We have tried the Lemon Meringue and the Chocolate Silk. Both were wonderful.

This Perkins in Savannah is a great stop. With its location next to the Quality Inn, it provides and excellent stop for travelers. Over all it is a nice restaurant to get a good meal at a good price.
