Life is downhill after...40...50...60, you bet your sweet bippy it is! Don't sweat the small stuff! A flat tire is no longer the end of the world, it is just an inconvenience.
I am old enough to know better; sometimes I do it anyway! I can consider what I want to do, whom it will effect, consider the consequences and GO FOR IT! (I'm a big girl, I can fade the heat)
I don't have to explain anything! When asked why? The simple response is "because I do or do not want to". (Principles come into play here)
I can do anything I want to someone as long as I tell them up front. (That principle thing, again)
I no longer have to house, feed, clothe or educate any children. That goes for grandchildren as well. (I raised mine, you raise yours)
I do not apologize for going to the Casino...that's my bass boat!
I wear what is comfortable today. I could care less about "style". Spike heels ruined my feet and my back. You'll see....
I can choose who I want to spend quality time with. Some people are just "empty suitcases" and it is not my job to entertain them. (That principle thing might come into play here.)
Everyone has the right to be who they are....including me. I can be the same on the outside as I am on the inside. I have no conflict.
Other people are no longer a reflection on me. You are who you have become. (This goes for my family as well)
I am no longer the "product of my environment". I am who I have become and I am perfectly OK with that.
I no longer HAVE TO answer the phone. The world is not looking to me for all its answers. (There is Caller ID now)
When I do the things I am "supposed" to do, then I have plenty of time to do the things I "want" to do.
Can't and Won't are one in the same. I know what is Yes and what is No...today. (For me alone)
I can play the role in life that is expected of me today. When advantage is taken, the answer is NO.
A southern accent still has "charm" (and helps me get what I want)
Today, thanks to living life, Spiritual grit and learning along the way, I have freedom and I am not guilty! Thank You, God.

Post a CommentYou're so wise! I'm going to start living like I'm "older" now, if it's okay with you. I'm tired of making youthful mistakes :)
well spoken words of the accountability of independence and adult choices.
To start with. I was born in 1944 too, so that makes us soulmates(almost). Life is downhill after 40...50...60...are you kidding me. I retired 3 years ago and I'm having the time of my life. I've made all my mistakes(almost) and am currently engaged in making mistakes of an entirely different variety. One of the advantages with being an old guy isthat pretty young things allow you to take liberties with them. They think you are "safe" (suckers). Oh, and i absolutely adore Southern accents.
Too bad that you're too young for me! LOL!! You're great!
Amen. Y'all might enjoy my latest article Staying young forever. Thank You fer sharin'. Mizpah. ;-}}>
I like this one!!..
ROFL - you are so right! Don't shave if I don't want to - although after a couple of days I do look like a homeless person. Oh well - I do have a home and it's paid for - now I have to beat back those tax people.
Amen! Well said.

I love it! This piece is so well written I felt you talking to me. Now about that southern accent?
Interesting.
P.S: Can you figure out why they put the topic Osgood slaughter under so many articles ? I see it often on mine and it perplexes me, as it does not relate to the article.
