For obvious reasons I was nervous about taking this step. Moving in together is very serious business, after all. While it has barely been a week since we have moved in I have already seen the many positives of living with your girlfriend. Here are just some of my favorite perks.
First perk of living with your girlfriend: She can cook! Oh my, she can cook!
This is not the first time Emily has ever cooked for me. She has made little things before that didn't take much effort. Ever since we have moved in Em has cooked an awesome meatloaf, a homemade pizza, and chicken parmesan. Everything that she has made has been really good, too. Who knew she had it in her?
Second perk of living with your girlfriend: She does the laundry
This is great for me because I really hate doing laundry. While I like to think that this is a nice gesture I think I've figured out why she has offered to do laundry. I'm pretty sure she doesn't want me going anywhere near her clothes. That's probably for the best. I go along with her and watch. I'm just not allowed to touch.
Third perk of living with your girlfriend: She watches sports with me
I love Championship Week and the NCAA Tournament more than any other sporting event. I figured that for the next month she would sit in the bedroom watching her shows while I lived in the living room watching basketball. That's not been the case at all. She has watched almost every game that I have. I think she watches to see if the students are going to storm the court or not. She's even watched preseason baseball with me. Every time she wears her New York Mets t-shirt I get pumped.
Fourth perk of living with your girlfriend: She's warm and she cuddles
Winter is almost over but it's nice to have somebody in bed next to you on those cold nights. It makes it even better when that person is ridiculously warm. As long as she keeps wearing socks (her feet get so cold when the rest of her is warm...weird) I am toasty warm at night.
Fifth perk of living with your girlfriend: She hates making the bed, too
Can anybody tell me what the point is in making the bed? You're just getting back into it that very night. Luckily for me Em agrees with my point of view. We have made the bed once since moving in. The only reason we did it then was to put the covers onto the bed. Right now I'm pretty sure the covers are either in a ball at the foot of the bed or on the ground.
Sixth perk of living with your girlfriend: She plays video games
Any guy who doesn't think they're girlfriend likes video games is just plain wrong. Sure, Em may not enjoy my basketball or football games. She loves to play Grand Theft Auto, though. Unfortunately she has trouble driving the cars without running into things. Art imitates life, I guess (I'm kidding, sweetie).
Seventh perk of living with your girlfriend: All the little things you do together that you did before now happen everyday
For the most part things really aren't all that different. We still play card games and Scrabble together. We eat every meal with one another. We go out for walks and watch movies together. The only big difference is that, before moving in together, you do many things together. After moving in with your girlfriend you do just about everything together.
Now I'm sure most of you reading this are going to let me know that things aren't always going to be perfect. Both Emily and I are aware of that fact. It helps that we've known one another for about a decade now so all our little quirks aren't a secret. That meatloaf thing caught me by surprise, though.
