Perparing the Face for Makeup

C. A. Hargreaves
The purpose of preparing your face for makeup is to rid your skins surface of grease and grime and any dead skin cell build up. So that when you apply your makeup, you have a clean slate to work with. Follow the simple step-by-step instructions below and you will have the perfect foundation to lay your makeup.

What you will need:

  • headband / hair ties and clips
  • mirror
  • cotton pads/balls
  • face cloth
  • skincare care: cleanser; toner; ampoules or specialty creams; face sun bloc; moisturiser.

Preparing your face:

1. Pull hair back using either the headband or hair tie and clips. This keeps the hair off your face while you are applying your makeup.

2. With moist hands, apply a small blob of cleanser to your face, use gentle upwards sweeping motions to spread the cleanser.

3. Remove the cleanser with damp cotton pads/balls or face cloth. Once again, use the upward sweeping motion.

4. On two moist cotton pads/balls place a small amount of toner. Apply in the same upward sweeping motion. The toner helps to refresh the face.

5. Apply any treatment creams at this stage as directed by the manufacture.

6. Apply your moisturiser.

7. Apply your facial sun bloc.

Tips for Preparing Your Face

Generally, this routine would be carried out in the morning when you are getting ready for the day.

Once you are used to the steps you will be able to prepare your skin in under five minutes.

You will need to leave about ten minutes after you have applied your sun bloc and moisturiser. This will give the moisturiser time to settle before you apply your makeup.

When applying skincare be careful not to drag the skin.

Make sure you use products that are suited to your skincare needs, and requirements. Such as your skin type, conditions and concerns you have.

To maintain good skin condition it is advisable to have a facial every six to eight weeks, weather that be DIY or Salon is up to you.

If you are starting a skincare routine for the first time or you are changing products you may notice that your skin has an outbreak of blemishes. This will settle down after about fourteen to twenty-one days.

At anytime during this procedure your skin has a reaction to any of the products you use, stop using them immediately and consult a professional.
