New York City is one of the biggest cities in the world. Although one may assume because it is so big, it is easy to find a good eatery, that is not always the case. When it comes to Persian cuisine, the chances of discovering a good Persian restaurant are relatively slim. Despite this cuisine being reasonably fluent, it is an uncommonness in the food world when compared to other cuisines. Ghazaye Irani shegeft angiz ast! As someone who is Persian, I often find myself contemplating food decisions. What to eat? Where to eat? etc. Recently, when visiting the Big Apple, I had the opportunity to discover Persepolis.
Located in the heart of New York City on 1407 2nd Avenue in between 73rd and 74th streets lies one of the most appetizing Persian restaurants in the city, Persepolis. When entering this fantastic Persian food establishment, you will notice the simplicity of the ambience. Despite being a Persian oriented eating place, the environment is unpretentious yet unpredictable. The tables are round and covered in white table clothes. The walls are covered in paintings, adding a little essence to the place. It is not cultured but does possess an appeal that is intriguing.
When it came time to order, I noticed the staff at Persepolis was rather considerate, yet swift. The staff was also very helpful, explaining the different entrees and offering different suggestions. When it comes to frequenting any kind of restaurant, I definitely look at the service I receive. After pondering and choose what to order, I finally decided to go with the "Cheese & Vegetable" as an appetizer, followed by the "Khorest Ghormeh Sabzi." I am a lacto-ovo vegetarian and went with this entr©e, simply because it is vegetarian friendly. The waiter brought my appetizer followed by my entr©e out in just minutes after I placed my order. I was very surprised, considering it was relatively busy. The Cheese & Vegetable was great, but the Khorest Ghormeh Sabzi was amazing. I was very impressed. At this point, I was very full, so I ended up asking for a take out box.
Aya dessert hara doost darid? I have to admit, I love dessert and what better way to end the meal with Baklava. The Baklava was amazing at Persepolis because it has honey and pistachio. The pistachio definitely complimented the honey, making the Baklava at this Persian bistro incredibly delicious.
Overall, I was very impressed with Persepolis. Persepolis is open daily Sunday through Saturday from 12 noon to 11:30 p.m. Delivery service is available, as is catering. To make a reservation, you can just contact them via phone or email. Would I recommend Persepolis in New York City to a friend? Most definitely. Would I eat at this fine Persian establishment again? Absolutely. If you are searching for great Persian cuisine in the Big Apple, Persepolis is indubitably the eatery you have been destined to find.
