Personal Story of Single Motherhood

How Support Can Make the Greatest Difference

Esper_D
I've never seen myself as anything less than blessed in this journey of parenthood. I have a child I love more than the moon and stars and I have a network of support that loves us both so much. The support started as early as pregnancy as family and friends would join me for doctor appointments, birthing classes, and even labor and delivery itself. I had the biggest baby shower I have ever attended. There were so many guests that I was opening gifts for what felt like hours! I didn't get just one of something, I got multiple gifts of the same items, one right after the other. It was truly incredible to see how much my loved ones cared about me.

I had an onset of offers to babysit the baby if I ever needed it. I didn't take up many of the offers as I didn't want to burden anyone or have my baby cry with strangers. However, my immediate family has been the best support of all when it comes to babysitting. I'm so lucky to have someone to watch my child as I take my graduate courses at school. I also get the occasional weekend night free to have some fun. Through it all I have made sure I have been the main person who watches my child, cares for him and purchases anything he may need. Luckily, he doesn't require much as I am still using so many items from his baby shower and it is over a year and a half later.

What single motherhood means to me is a bunch of extra love, kisses, hugs, affection and the word "mama" from my little one, every single day.
