Personalize Your Vows with a Themed Wedding

Unique Wedding Ideas

Jennifer Walker
Your wedding day is one of the most important days of your life. It is something that you will remember forever, as will your friends and family who attend. However, so many weddings are like cookie cutter creations: the same style of dress, the same music, the same cake, with only minor variations. Why not make it truly personal and unique by having a themed wedding?

Choose your Theme

The first thing you need to do when you decide to have a themed wedding is to decide what the theme will be. You should pick something that is representative of your personality and tastes. Here are some ideas for themed weddings you might consider:

Celtic

Old west

Gone With the Wind

Star Trek

Star Wars

Anime/Manga

Fox hunting

Football

Set the Scene

Choose a location for your themed wedding that will set the scene. Whether it is a quaint old country bed-and-breakfast, a scenic hillside or Las Vegas-there are many places to choose from. Decorate both the place you will have your ceremony and the place for your reception in ways that bring your theme to life. Added touches like arriving in a carriage instead of a limousine all help to make your day special. Think of favors to give your guests that add to the scene and give them something they can take with them to remember the day for years to come.

Manner of dress is a big way to incorporate the theme into your wedding. Choose attire for yourself and the wedding party that will be in keeping with the look you have chosen. You do not have to fall into the white bridal gown and ugly bridesmaid dress trap! Celtic or old west style dresses, costumes or sports jerseys are all fun ways to depart from tradition and carry on your theme. In y our invitations, announce the theme and encourage your guests to dress the part.

During the reception, consider having entertainment that fits in your wedding theme. Bands, dancers and other performers liven up the party and keep your guests entertained-especially the ones who don't dance.

Planning a themed wedding can be a lot of fun, and you can decide how much money to spend on it or how far to go in incorporating your theme. However you decide to do it or whatever theme you choose, your wedding is bound to be a unique and special way to begin your new life with the one you love.
