Personalized Baby Shower Gifts for Parents

Kelly Herdrich
The impending birth of a baby is an exciting time for parents. When families get together to celebrate this time with a baby shower, gifts for babies are often the highlight. Selecting the perfect personalized baby shower gift for parents, however, is a wonderful way to celebrate the birth of a new baby. New moms and dads will love the gesture, and the gift is something that can be cherished long after the baby grows up.

Family Tree

Many stores, such as Hallmark and Things Remembered, sell variations of a family tree. Some are actually shaped like trees, with places for pictures hanging around. Some hold engraved or handwritten names and birth dates. A family tree is a great choice for a personalized baby shower gift for parents, as it can be added to as the family grows and personalized even further (name and birth date) after the baby is born. If a free standing family tree doesn't seem like the best choice, consider a framed version, from stores such as Pottery Barn and Red Envelope. Include names, birth dates and pictures of mom, dad and the kids, too. This baby shower gift is sure to become a cherished family heirloom.

Family Album or Scrapbook

Another suggestion for a personalized baby shower gift for parents is a family album or scrapbook. Gather pictures of the mom and dad to be - but don't limit your selections to the most recent pictures available; include photos of them growing up, their baby pictures, wedding portraits and photographs of their grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Get supplies from stores such as Michael's, or contact your local Creative Memories consultant for materials and ideas. Leave pages at the end for mom and dad to put in pictures of the baby after she or he is born, and even decorate the pages for certain momentous occasions, such as "the day you were born," "coming home from the hospital," "early visitors" and a variety of firsts that baby will experience in the early days. A personalized baby album or scrapbook makes a touching baby shower gift that can be enjoyed by children as they grow up, too.

Bracelets for Mom, Dad and Baby

Consider jewelery as a baby shower gift for parents, too. Many stores sell personalized baby bracelets or identification bracelets for men, women and children. Consider purchasing the bracelets, which can be engraved with the baby's name and birth date after he or she arrives. Think about buying a beaded bracelet for mom, which can potentially have other children's names added later on, if necessary. Go for basic ID bracelets for dad and baby, who might not be regular jewelery wearers. Or, opt for a matching set for the entire family. Whichever you choose, this personalized baby shower gift shows mom and dad that they're special, too!

Family Blanket

A personalized quilt or blanket for expectant parents is another great idea for a baby shower gift. Consider a blanket that includes the names of the family members, the family's surname or a family tree. Are you a crafty person? Knit a blanket with everyone's initials on it, or sew a quilt that matches the parents' living room or bedroom color scheme. A family blanket is a useful gift, as well as something that can remind mom and dad just how special their family is.

Framed Family Portrait

A framed family portrait makes a perfect personalized baby shower gift for expectant parents. Purchase a large frame, have it engraved with the family's surname and pay the sitting fee for the family to have a portrait taken once their little bundle of joy arrives. The frame is beautiful, but the gesture is what will really touch the new parents' hearts.

When shopping off of the registry for the perfect baby shower gift, don't forget to give some thought to the mom and dad to be. A personalized baby shower gift for parents is often something that the family can keep and cherish for the rest of their lives, and it will outlast a onesie or a bouncy seat. Parents will love a personalized baby shower gift that breaks the mold and surprises everyone with its thoughtfulness.

I received some very nice, engravable pewter keepsakes for baby's first curl and first tooth. Though I didn't need the first tooth one for 5 years, our daughter really enjoys seeing that first tooth in there (we entered tense negotiations with the Tooth Fairy to be able to keep it ;) I do think anything personalized is always a great gift to give and to receive.

Wonderful ideas!!! I just love the heart shaped mother's necklace my dad gave me when H was born. He gave it a slight twist, by having my mother's birthstone at the top of the heart and mine and my children's beneath hers - as if she is looking over us. I love it.
