Personalized Apron:
Most dads cook from time to time, even if they aren't addicted to grilling. A personalized apron is a usable gift, that any dad will where with pride. To make a personalized Fathers Day apron you will need:
A solid colored apron
Fabric paint
Fabric paint pen
Paint brush
Old newspaper
Soap and Water handy
Start by lying the apron on a flat surface. Next using the fabric paint pen, or paint brush loaded with fabric paint, write the name of the person receiving the gift, on the chest of the apron. Allow the name to dry for at least 30 minutes before you continue, this will help prevent any accidental smears. Once the name is dry paint the child's hand with fabric paint. Have the child press their hand onto a old piece of newspaper, this will remove access paint. After they have presses their hand on the newspaper once, have them press their hand on the apron. The end result is a beautiful personalized apron, with their child's hand prints.
TIPS:
If you have more the one child, have each child apply a right, and left painted hand print.
Once the hand prints are dry you can right the child's name on the print, or little messages such as love, #1 Dad. and so on if you think the apron needs a little extra touch.
You can also use this technique on other fabric items such as place-mats, beach towels, and more.
Be sure to use fabric paint, so that the fabric can be washed after use, and not damaged.
Storage Can:
To make a personalize Fathers Day storage can that will hold anything from loose change, fishing tackle, nuts and bolts, and more you will need:
An empty Pringles can
Acrylic paint
Paint brush
Start off by removing the lid of the empty Pringles can. Next have your child paint the entire can in order to cover the label, and allow the paint to dry. Once the paint has dried allow your child to paint their own design on the can. After the project is completed, and all the paint is dry, put the lid back on the can.
TIPS:
You can cut a small slit in the middle of the plastic lid turning it into a bank.
Personalized Bookmarks:
If the person receiving the gift loves to read, then a bookmark will make a great gift. To make a personalized Fathers Day bookmark you will need:
Clear packing tape
Construction paper
Hole puncher
Yarn
Scissors
Glue Stick
Markers or Crayons
A small picture of the child
Start by cutting a piece of construction paper ( 2 1/2" wide X 6" long ). Next have the child draw a picture on one side of the bookmark. On the back of the bookmark glue a picture of the child at the bottom of the bookmark. At the top of the bookmark your child can write a special message such as "I love you dad". Once the bookmark you can have it laminated, or use clear packing tape to laminate it yourself. To use tape, peel 8" of tape from the roll, keeping it straight. Have your child place the book mark on the tape, making sure it is in the center of the tape. Cut the tape, and repeat this step, placing untaped side onto the tape. Finally, trim away the access tape. All thats left to do is punch a hole, and add yarn at the top of the bookmark.
TIP:
If you have a picture of father and child together, that will fit, it will make the bookmark even more special.
You don't need mini size photo's, you can cut the face out of a larger photo to make it fit.
Even though these crafts are simple, it means the world to a child to make them. It makes a child feel like they personally put effort into the gift, and that its a gift from them. Store bought gifts are great, and can be added in addition to any of the crafts, if you choose. A bookmark can come with a book, or gift card to a book store. A storage can, can hold a gift card, watch, money, etc... And an apron can easily come with a new grill, a cook book, or even a steak diner. There are many ways a child can show their love, and this is just a handful. Allow your child to be creative, and expressive. After all you can always use the excuse, "they get that from you".
