Choosing the perfect birthday gift can be daunting even if you know the person's likes and dislikes, but it can become extremely difficult if you know very little about them. Asking questions can be helpful, but it doesn't always give the complete picture of what they may be into or what they really need. Getting hit with an unexpected invitation to a birthday party can stress anyone out; especially when it comes to very large families, friends, co-workers and casual acquaintances, and when the party invitations seems to be coming non-stop it can really beef up the stress level of what to get them.

Depending on the person you are shopping for price can become a huge consideration as well, as you typically would not spend a lot on acquaintances or co-workers, but you also do not want to appear to be a cheap skate. Chances are high that you may have never entered their home if they are a casual acquaintance, so guessing at their color schemes and styles can be dangerous territory unless you plan on giving them the receipt along with the gift. Many stores do offer a gift receipt option, but not always do you wish for the cost to be known to the recipient.

Gift certificates and money are always a great gift as they can be used when the person feels so inclined to go on a shopping spree, but this can show a lack of planning and imagination. Buying a gift that shows that some real thought was put into it makes people feel special, and the gift will be long remembered after their birthday has come and gone.

Personalized gifts have become extremely popular as they can be found anywhere from online to the mall, and even at large retail stores. Just about about any object can be personalized, and the great thing about this type of gift is that the price can be anywhere from inexpensive to astronomical and of the finest quality, and the birthday recipient knows that you actually took the time to have something really nice prepared for their special day. Just make sure that you get their name spelled correctly on the gift, and there is no doubt that they will be pleased that you had something personalized just for them as it makes the gift uniquely theirs. When it comes to the price, the bottom line really depends on what you are looking to have personalized. Coffee cups, key chains, picture frames, and T-shirts are relatively inexpensive items to have personalized.

Things Remembered is a store that specializes in personalized gifts and they have a large variety that covers all ages. They are located in malls as well as online and they carry everything from trinket boxes to picture frames and personalized pen sets. The site offers a link to sale items that offers several pages of gift ideas from clocks and steins to cuff links and business card holders. For gift ideas go to: www.thingsremembered.com.

Photo magazine covers will turn any birthday into an extra special day when you put the birthday person into the celebrity status. A simple photo can be uploaded and turned into a realistic magazine cover with captions that include any date that you choose and a catchy headline. To become an instant celebrity for your birthday or make somebody else's birthday extra special go to: www.personalcreations.com and keyword "magazine cover" into the search option.

T-shirts are worn by almost everyone of every age and they are inexpensive birthday gift, and now you can personalize colored T-shirts with just about anything your imagination can dream up. Custom birthday T-shirts have never been easier to dream up with Zazzle's online site that allows you to have fun with images, colors, layouts, and a variety of colored T-shirts to choose from, including black. You get to upload images, play with fonts, and preview the T-shirt before deciding that it is the perfect birthday gift. There is no minimum to purchase and no set-up fees. T-shirt orders are shipped within 24 hours and the cost is only $13.45 for one T-shirt. The prices get lower with multiple orders and it doesn't have to be the same T-shirt to receive a discount. Just go to http://www.zazzle.com to order your personalized gift.

Caricatures are another favorite as it is a personalized cartoon type drawing of the person that really brings out their best features. This type of drawing is fun and they last forever if properly cared for. The best thing of all is that the person does not have to be there for the drawing to be made. Caricature prints can be made right over the computer simply by uploading a photo of the person. You choose a scene that best matches the person's interests which can include almost anything from sitting at a slot machine to golfing or a day at the beach. The drawing typically takes 3-4 weeks from the time you order your caricature, but it is well worth the wait. For information on how to order a caricature drawing go to: www.personalcreations.com.

    Great ideas Sherri,
I like the caricature on the T. shirt thing. Very clever and the magazine cover idea for a present. I once bought my father an engraved book mark for my mother on mother's day at THINGS REMEMBERED. I love that store. Oh, and thanks for reading my content. I look forward to reading more of yours. Bye

That sounds beautiful David, and quite thoughtful. I am having wine glasses personalized for my parents anniversary next month. I am sure that they will love them.

17 years ago, I bought my wife a Things Remembered frame that is engraved "First Mother's Day" In the frame is a photo of my wife and our almost year old daughter on that day. I am quite proud of that gift. It is a much stronger memory than all of the poorly planned gifts since.
