Underage children are the biggest user base of the website, and many do not understand the risks they are placing themselves in. They think nothing of giving out their phone numbers, full names, and addresses online.Just browsing the 'groups' feature will show you the naivety that many of these children have. One such group, advertised as a place for younger females looking for men whom are 6+ years older than them. The group itself has a Mature Audience warning that many of the 'Adult-Oriented Groups' posses.
That in and of itself is nothing surprising.
Yet once you are past that, you can see many obviously underage girls who are professing to be over the age restriction of 18. Not exactly top-notch security, but that is expected on the Internet.
Inside, what you will find is nothing short of disturbing. One young girl openly remembers her molestation at the hands of her father's friend when she was 13. Claiming she was 'flirting with him', while the 45 year old man was 'waiting for her father' and 'he kissed me' the story only goes further downhill from there.Quoting her directly:
when i was 13 i use to live with my dad and he went to work everyday before i went to school his friends used to stop by looking for him and i remember his one friend jeff who was 45 came by alot and i always though he was cute and flirted with him .one day i invite him in to wait for my dad (knowing he wouldnt be home for hours)so he came in and was like will he be back soon and i said no so he smiled a little and said you just wanted to hang out me didnt you ? i just sat in his lap and said what do you think....he leaned in to kiss me and i couldnt help myself i kissed him back we made out for a min or twoAnother girl recounts her molestation at the age of 8 that continued on until she was 15, she states it was a 'positive' experience. To quote directly her post states:
I was 8, he was about 33.Before everyone asks, yes, I remember it as a positive experience. We were secretly dating until I was 15.This horrifying revelation only becomes worse when other young females recount their own stories in even more details, and men recounting their young victims. All out in the open, with only a small 'over 18 warning only' as the only gateway.
It is understandably difficult to moderate a website with so many users. Unfortunately, that still is absolutely no excuse for these matters to go undiscovered, and unfortunately it seems that every time they manage to rid the website of this type of garbage, more will and does pop up.
Regulations of the Internet will not do anything positive, for most. The Internet is used for open and unrestricted discussions. The normal people so to speak, whom aren't looking for sordid tales or anything illegal. They are only looking for those who they can connect with.
Unfortunately, for these select individuals it seems that this would be the only way to go. It's a distubing addition to the rest of society that the one's who can so easily subvert ther own morals will also force the rest of society along with them.
