Pet adoption is a great way to select a new pet to join your family. The following is a list of pet adoption centers and rescue groups in Cincinnati, where pets may be adopted. I have included their contact information as well as their websites in order to make adopting a pet in Cincinnati, Ohio as easy as possible for you.

Three Sisters Pet Rescue: Three Sisters Pet Rescue group saves dogs and cats from overcrowded and/or kill shelters in the Cincinnati area and socializes them in their own foster homes.

Three Sisters currently has puppies and kitties awaiting adoption. Bigdoghouse Pyrenees Rescue: The Bigdoghouse Pyrenees Rescue places dogs into stable homes.

In order to adopt a dog from this rescue team, you must fill out an application and be approved for adoption. You must also have a fenced in yard as well as undergo a home visit to ensure your home is a safe and secure place for an adopted dog.

The adoption fee is $250, which includes veterinary care.

The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) Cincinnati: The SPCA has dogs and cats up for adoption all the time. Their business hours are daily (including Saturday and Sunday) from 10am-6pm.

The adoption fee for cats under six months of age and dogs under six months of age is $100 each. Adoption fees of $80 exist for cats over six months of age and dogs over six months of age. If you adopt a dog at any age, you must also purchase a dog license, which costs $13.75. The adoption fee includes up-to-date immunizations, spay/neuter, and veterinary care. You also receive a 30-day pet insurance policy with each adoption from the SPCA.

O'Bryonville Animal Rescue (OAR): OAR is a place in which individuals may adopt cats, including kittens, cats with special needs, adult cats, and elderly cats.

An adoption fee of $100 exists for kittens under one year of age and $60 for cats over one year of age. The fee includes spay/neuter, up-to-date immunizations, and veterinary care. All cats are also tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS.

Sheltered Paws Dog Rescue: Sheltered Paws Dog Rescue has dogs up for adoption, which may be viewed by visiting: http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/sheltered-paws.html.

The shelter charges an adoption fee, which is not specified on their site. The fee includes spay/neuter, veterinary care, immunizations, and medication for the pet (if applicable).

The Scratching Post: The Scratching Post is a no kill shelter for cats, located in Silverton, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati, Ohio. The shelter has about 50 cats up for adoption year around.

Normal adoption hours are every Sunday from 12 (noon) to 4pm and Thursday from 12 (noon) to 6:30pm. Appointments for adoptions can also be made every weekday.

All cats are examined by a veterinarian and tested for feline leukemia and feline AIDS. Additionally, all kitties are given their immunizations and are spayed/neutered before being adopted.

Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Cincinnati: The Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Cincinnati has dogs and cats that are up for adoption. An adoption fee of $200 exists for puppies under 17 weeks of age, $150 for dogs over the age of 17 weeks of age, and $85 for kittens or cats. Each pet is spayed/neutered, treated for fleas and ticks, microchipped and registered with Home Again, and tested for disease before it is placed with an individual's or family's home.

All interested individuals must fill out an application before they will be allowed to adopt a dog or cat from the Homeless Animal Rescue Team of Cincinnati. Living Creatures Animal Sanctuary: This animal foster care and adoption organization has cats, dogs, horses, rabbits, and a skunk up for adoption at this time. An adoption fee exists for every animal at Living Creatures Animal Sanctuary. Puppies are $145, dogs are $110, and cats are $50 apiece. Other animals, such as horses, skunks, and rabbits have unspecified adoption fees. The adoption fee covers up-to-date immunizations and spay/neuter.

Cat Connection of Cincinnati: Cat Connection of Cincinnati mostly adopts out cats, but they occasionally have dogs and rabbits up for adoption as well.

Cat Connection gives cats up-to-date immunizations, veterinary care, tests for feline AIDS, and spay/neuters them before putting them up for adoption. All applicants must complete an adoption application as well as pay an adoption fee for cats. Cat Connection does not allow kittens under three months of age to be adopted into homes with children five years old and under.

Arrowhead Reptile Rescue: Arrowhead Reptile Rescue houses reptiles of various types for adoption. They currently have lizards, turtles, torts, and snakes up for adoption.     Thanks for sharing. I have been looking for a shelter in my area that takes in cats. We have a cat that we are no longer able to keep and because he's an older cat nobody wants to take him. All of the shelters we have tried are completely booked, but we still have some more to call. Hopefully we'll find one soon:)
