Los Angeles Animal Services
The Los Angeles Animal Services has six Care Centers located through out the city of Los Angeles. North Central, South L.A., West Valley, East Valley, West L.A., and Harbor. To view each location visit the website.
The Care Centers house mainly dogs and cats, but they do have a few other animals that can be adopted. You can visit their adoption search to view the full inventory of animals.
All animals are throughly screened before being put up for adoption. Before adopting a pet you must fill out adoption forms and be screened at the shelter. You will be provided with any information relevant to the pet you are adopting and the Care Center is available to help you after you take your pet home.
All Care Centers are open Tuesday through Sunday. Tuesday and Thursday, 8 AM to 7 PM. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 8 AM to 5 PM. Sunday, 11 AM to 5 PM. For more information they can be contacted at 888-452-7381.
The Lange Foundation
The Lange Foundation was founded in 1993 by Gillian Lange. The foundation has been saving cats and dogs from shelters and placing them in loving homes that otherwise would have been killed. The Lange Foundation mainly houses dogs and cats but you can occasionally find other types of animals as well. Visit their website to view animals that are available for adoption or you can go to the facility to view the animals. The Lange Foundation is located at 2106 S. Sepulveda Blvd. West Los Angeles, CA 90025. Their hours are 11 AM - 5 PM and they are open 7 days a week. For more information visit their website or call them at 310-473-5585.
Pet Pride
Pet Pride is a No Kill shelter that was founded in 1965. Along with being No Kill they are cage free. This shelter is a cat only shelter. The shelter also known as the Home for Cats is located at 3350 S. Robertson Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 90034. They are open everyday expect Wednesdays and Sundays. Their hours are 11 AM to 4 PM. You can visit to view cats who are up for adoption. Cats are only adopted to approved families. Visit the website for more information or called 310-836-5427.
Molly Mutts & Meows
Molly Mutts & Meows is a non-profit organization that works to find loving homes for animals, instead of being placed in the Los Angeles area shelters. Molly Mutts & Meows houses cats and dogs only. To adopt one of their animals you can visit their website, find the animal you want and then fill out an application and fax it in. They will then interview you, inspect your home and release the pet to you. There are some costs associated with the the adoptions, which is a tax-deductible adoption donation.
Molly Mutts & Meows is located in the Los Angeles are but they do not have a facility that can be visited. They hold adoptions on the first three Saturdays of the month from 12 PM to 3 PM. You can visit the animals at the adoption area which is located at West Hollywood Park, on Robertson Blvd. just south of Santa Monica Blvd. Visit their website for dates and times or you can call at 310-837-MUTT.
Best Friends Animal Society - Los Angeles
Best Friends works with humane groups, shelters, and other agencies to find homes for animals in Los Angeles. They are primarily run through volunteers and have no adoption shelter. The hold adoption events as multiple locations which can be found on their calendar on the website. You cal also call for more information at 818-377-9700.

Second Chance Adoptions
Second Chance Adoptions saves cats from local shelters and puts them up for adoption. They do not have a shelter which you can visit but they have adoption days in three areas around the city. Visit their site for more information or call them at 714-422-1447.
Singita Animal Sanctuary
Singita Animal Sanctuary is a new No Kill animal sanctuary in Los Angeles. The sanctuary houses cats only. You can meet their available animals at several different locations through out the month. Check their website for more information. There is an adoption application and interview as well as a donation amount depending on the type of animal and breed. Bichons and Buddies
Bichons and Buddies is a non-profit organization serving the Los Angeles area. They rescue mixed dogs and small dogs that no longer can be taken care of properly and place them in loving homes. To view available dogs, visit their website. Once you find the dog you would like, you can fill out an application (also found on the site) and submit it to them through email. They'll then contact you with more information. Should you like more information call 310-390-8944 or visit the website.
Perfect Pet Rescue
Perfect Pet Rescue rescues dogs and places them in homes. They have two mobile adoption centers, information can be found on their website. You can also view the available dogs on their website. Once you find the dog you like you can fill out an adoption application and then call them at 310-726-3731 and they'll help you through the rest of the process.
PURRfect Match
PURRfect Match is a non-profit corporation who works to save stray kittens around the city. Once a kitten is found it's placed in a foster parents home where it stays until adoption. To adopt a kitten you will have to go to the available kittens page and click on the cat you want. There you will find instructions on who to contact. The foster parent will get back to you with more information. They do not do long distance adoptions, so you must be in the Los Angeles area! There is an extensive adoption process which includes a two page application and interview. You will also be asked to donate upon adoption. For more information call 310-328-9723.
So this year when you decide to add to your family remember there are may great organizations that work hard and endlessly to provide animals with loving homes. Every animal deserves someone that loves and takes care of them. Be that somebody and adopt through shelters or non-profit organizations!
