When booking the hotel, make sure that the hotel policy actually allows pets. Even if you have used to same hotel in the past, that does not mean to say that the hotel is still pet-friendly. Turning up unannounced with Rover in tow will not go down well, so check before you arrive to make sure that your furry friend will be welcome. Once you have confirmed that your dog is welcome to join you, start to make the necessary arrangements. Pack the dog's vet records, identification tags and bring along a recent photo in case the dog escapes and needs to be identified.
Pet-friendly hotels welcome well behaved pets that are trained and friendly. If your dog is unpredictable, barks loudly at the slightest noise or has a habit of running off when your back is turned, you should reconsider bringing your dog along to the pet-friendly hotel. If you plan to leave the dog unattended at the hotel while you are on holiday, keep the dog inside its kennel so that maids will not have to confront your dog when they stop by to clean your room. Alternatively, arrange for maid service while you are in the hotel room so that you can keep a better eye on the dog, or clean the room yourself.
Dog owners should pack their dog's food, toys, blankets and snacks so that the dog will be able to settle in quickly in the hotel room. Once the dog has finished eating each day, pack the food and water bowls away. Leaving uneaten dog food out can attract insects, which the hotel will have to deal with once you check out.
Do not forget to be prepared to clean up after your dog in case the dog is sick or has an accident. Pack cleaning supplies, paper towels and plastic bags that can be disposed of easily.
Be prepared to display correct pet-friendly etiquette when travelling with your pet dog. Check the hotel's pet-friendly policy, keep dogs in the kennel during maid service and clean up after dogs that have accidents or are sick during hotel stays.

Excellent topic & tips here...thanks Sophie!
I wanted to work in that kind of hotel I guess. I just graduate HRM.:)
We've stayed in hotels with our dogs and things went pretty smoothly. Your tips are excellent. I'm printing it out for our next vacation.
Great tips. It's great that more and more hotels are welcoming dogs. Fun for dogs, too.
Top-notch tips here! I wouldn't mind sharing a hotel with Rover, as long as s/he was well-behaved and- yes, didn't leave messes behind.
Etiquette is very important in a hotel especially as there may be guests who are not fond of Rover.
Excellent tips.
