Whenever our family travels to Ocracoke Island we bring our furry friend, Chelsey. Chelsey is a 70 pound Chesapeake Bay Retriever. She is known for being a water dog and loves to swim for hours (yes, hours). So leaving Chelsey at home wouldn't be fair for her and it provides us entertainment while out on the beach. There are a few lodging places on Ocracoke Island and only two places to stay that allow pets. One of them is Blackbeard's Lodge which is the most affordable between the two on the island.
The staff at Blackbeard's Lodge is very professional and courteous. The last time we checked in, it had been a year and the front desk clerk remembered us from our last visit. I thought that this was amazing since they do get quite busy. They love returning guests and treat us well.
Our room is usually a standard one room with a full size bed with a full bathroom. There is usually a small fridge available. The rooms do allow pets so there are markings on the doors and walls from some misbehaved dogs but nothing that would turn someone away from the room. The rooms are usually well kept and clean.
There was only one time that we received a room where the carpet had some pet stains. They were only stains and the room did not have an odor to it. Our other rooms had linoleum so that was never an issue again. I am assuming that the room had not been updated as of that time when they were converting all the carpeted pet rooms to rooms with linoleum.
The lodge does have a game room with pool tables, DVDs/videos to borrow and board games. They have a very nice wrap around porch with rocking chairs that you can sit on after a long day on the island or at the beach. They also have a good size swimming pool which is always clean.
So whether you are going for the weekend or for a week, you will not be disappointed with Blackbeard's Lodge. For the price, you can't beat the room. You also receive a wonderful staff and the flexibility of being able to bring your pets along for a fun and relaxing family vacation.
