Pet Product Review: The Comfort Adjustable Collar for Dogs

A New Collar for Mila; How Does it Compare to Others?

Tonya Hillukka
After my Maltese-Yorkie puppy Mila outgrew her original collar, I purchased the Comfort Adjustable Collar for Dogs at the local Petco store. Her very first collar had been one of those cutesy little purple things with sequin flowers--in the smallest size available--and, of course, I bought a matching leash. But from the moment I put it on her, she scratched her neck nonstop. I wasn't completely sure it was the collar though; I thought she might just have dry skin.

She continued to scratch until the day she outgrew her little purple collar. It was time to go shopping again for a new collar--hopefully one that she would never outgrow. So I visited my local Petco store and purchased the Comfort Adjustable Pink Collar for Dogs, and I'm glad I did.

It was somewhat of a struggle to get the thing on, but I'm definitely not worried about it falling off my dog. Since the clasp is so small and not very flexible, it is extremely difficult to get the collar on and off Mila's little neck without choking her. I always feel like I'm pulling on the collar when I try to clasp or unclasp it.

I do like that it is adjustable to practically any size she might grow. It doesn't have the holes, like those on a belt buckle, but you just need to slide it to adjust the size. The material is very satiny, so it is very comfortable for small dogs. It is also very plush, so I don't worry as much when Mila pulls on the leash.

One thing that surprises me? I would have thought that, since it is so smooth and satiny, it wouldn't tangle Mila's hair as much. Since putting that collar on her neck, the hair underneath has become very matted, which never happened with the old collar.

Finally, a warning: Make sure to check the fit around your dog's neck often. If it somehow loosens up, she might try to chew on her collar and get her jaw stuck underneath. This happened to Mila recently--fortunately, we were home to help her remove it, but I'm scared that it might happen sometime when I am at work.

I am glad I chose the Comfort Adjustable Collar for Dogs (in pink, of course). Its plushness makes the collar much more comfortable for my dog and causes less damage to the throat; plus, it is adjustable, so it should last the rest of her lifetime. Well, at least until it becomes too dirty and worn.

Sterling review my friend. You've convinced me. I wonder if these would work for our cats who love to go on walks with us? :-)
