Pets are a sentimental value, unless they are workers, dogs used for herding, or pulling, or other work; don't think I've ever heard of a job for cats, you? Hamsters, mice, rabbits, frogs and fish, aren't in the work worth category either. You may have heard of chickens on a farm being thought of as pets, until they aren't pets anymore- that's probably right- don't know how we'd measure their worth, in Germany if you hit one, you pay a fine for that chicken and all the generations of chickens that it would produce. We aren't that way in the U.S. yet, but then again, maybe you know of such a law.
Dog's and cat's are counselors, blood pressure reducers, conversational masters, so adept at the eyes of wonder and the sheer delight of being with their master. Their value is not an easy one to establish. That's the lawyers point, how can you place a real value on such functions? Dog's as pets and cat's as pets, and other pets, not to mitigate the importance of fish and hamsters, mice and frogs...have a value to must be determined as it relates to something else. It is therefore hard to put a standard measure on it.
You might buy that, my sense is that it's legal blarney; many states in the U.S. have put an automatic high on the death of someone in a hospital. It might have been abuse of the profession, and they set that value at $250.000.00 So that no matter what the circumstances, in many states, the most money you will get for a hospital neglect death is a quarter of a million dollars. So that value is set, does it provide a guide in this matter?
The seeming bottom line on this eventuality is that you can't put a price tag on a pet, because they are emotional confidants, keepers of the heartstrings and become bonded family members, their value isn't just intrinsic, it's real. As we figure on the haze that is coming; from the "stars pets", where the money is, a portion of the scripture that comes from Jesus stands out, he said, "where the carcass is, there the vultures will gather." [Matthew 24:28] Worse than the ones that at least eat the meat in maintaining their lives, will be the vicious bottom feeders that make a mockery out of the relationship that did exist, for the almighty dollars of briefest celeb status. As we prepare for this next venue of ambulance chasing, get ready for the stars to come out on this one, and don't be surprised when the prosecuting attorney wants to know "who is the father here."
