It Takes a Village is a non-profit rescue in the Evansville, Indiana area that helps unwanted dogs find a home. ITV pulls dogs from Gibson County Animal Services in Princeton, Indiana, Owensboro, Kentucky Animal Control, and Evansville-Vanderburgh County Animal Control in Indiana. ITV accepts any homeless, unwanted dog, but this rescue focuses on those dogs that are having problems finding a home due to breed, age, personality or other factors.
I recently adopted a dog from ITV. Lindy is a beautiful Corgidor (Corgi/Labrador Retriever mix). Lindy had a rough life before coming to ITV. She spent her first year chained to a tree. She was liberated by a good Samaritan, and taken to Gibson County Animal Services. Once there, no one wanted her because she was SO hyper. Who wouldn't be hyper after being chained to a tree, right? She spent about two months at GCAS before being taken in by ITV. ITV is NOT a shelter - they are a non-profit rescue, and ALL of their dogs live in foster homes. Lindy was in a foster home with several other dogs where she had lots of love and time to play. She spent about a month and a half in this foster home before I was able to adopt her. Lindy is now in her furever home, with two big Husky-mix sisters that adore her, and a human family that can't imagine life without her!
ITV has been in operation for around two years, and they have saved over 1,200 dogs in this time. They have weekly adoption events at the Petsmart on the Lloyd Expressway on Evansville's east side. I volunteered with them last weekend, and had a great time. In addition to my Lindy, seven other dogs were adopted to loving homes this weekend. ITV is also very active on Facebook, and spends a lot of time promoting their dogs and cross-posting dogs for other rescue organizations.
ITV operates solely on donations. They accept cash, and donations of food, toys and supplies for the dogs in their care. You can make a donation via Paypal, by visiting their site, or by sending a check or box of goodies to 2414 MJM Industrial Drive, Evansville, IN 47715. You can also call 812-250-WAGS for further information on what donations are needed and how you can help! If you don't have the extra funds to make a donation of money or supplies, consider donating your time at Petsmart this weekend. Every donation counts, even the smallest, so please consider helping the dogs in the care of this rescue today!
