Pet Sitters: How to Stay on Good Terms with Clients

As a pet sitter, it is important to establish a regular client base and to continue to look for new clients. Doing so will help ensure a steady stream of income. But once you establish a good client base, it is vital that you maintain a good working relationship with them. What can you do to stay on good terms with clients?

Give Clients What They Want!

Clients want to hire pet sitters who are in tune with their needs and the needs of their pets. They want someone who will give them what they want without having to argue with them on how best to take care of Fluffy or the fact that Rover does not need to be groomed twice a day.

If clients make specific requests of you that are within reason, why argue with them? Just jot down each request and make sure to carry it out. Provided you are not asked to take part in something that will adversely harm the pets in your care, keep quiet about your own personal feelings and carry out the client's wishes. After all, that is what you are being paid for.

Carry Out Your Duties Diligently

One of the easiest ways to stay on good terms with clients is to make sure you carry out your duties diligently. Follow instructions to the letter and do not leave clients with any cause for complaint when they return home only to find that the cat's litter tray has not been cleaned out or that the dog's food bowl is empty.

Clients need to see for themselves that their cherished pets have been cared for properly and that all of their needs have been met. Receiving an oral report of what has gone on in the client's absence will not suffice when it is clear that you have neglected some aspects of your pet sitting duties.

Maintain a Professional Attitude

Pet sitting can be such a rewarding, satisfying career that many adopt a casual approach. But it is important to remember that you are carrying out a professional service, regardless of whether you are dog walking, pet sitting or simply stopping by each day to medicate a sick cat. Let clients see that you take your job very seriously be maintaining a professional attitude in all your conduct.

A professional attitude will also prevent you from complaining about Rover's incessant barking or how the cat kept clawing you. Focus on the positive outcomes of your pet sitting job and be sure to offer sincere praise and commendation for pets, where appropriate.

It is easy to stay on good terms with clients if you take the appropriate steps. Make sure you give clients what they want by carrying out their wishes and working diligently to discharge your responsibilities. Maintaining a professional attitude will also help you to stay on good terms, not just now, but during future pet sitting jobs.
