Pet Society Guide for Facebook and MySpace

Anne Wright
Pet Society has many users worldwide who love it so it's easy to find enthusiastic players and friends to guide you. I do not love it so this is a Pet Society guide that will help you get started, get trophies or get on with other things.

Pet Society is an internet social game developed by Playfish where you can custom design and care for your pet, earn coins and trophies, buy stuff and visit other pets. It started with Facebook and can now be played on MySpace and Bebo as well. Farm Town has recently eclipsed Pet Society as the most popular application on Facebook. Unfortunately, they are made by two different companies so you can play both games on Facebook but you can't spend your Pet Society coins in Farm Town.

Getting started on Pet Society is simple. Climbing up the ranks is complicated with at least 45 trophies to win (buying 30 arm accessories makes you a King of Bling) and 47 levels to reach (420,000 Paw Points gets you a house with ten rooms and makes you a Ruby Super Pet).

I tried Pet Society by logging into Facebook, searching for Pet Society and clicking on Play Now. Screen instructions prompt you through everything. You start by creating your pet and naming him. I got bored and failed to name him so it seems the default is Felix. I endured a second visit where I got a message from the mayor urging me to buy more rooms. I passed it over and arrived at the room where Felix now lives. There are icons on the bottom screen where you can get pet items out of a chest, play ball, decorate the room or use shortcuts (including Stylist which allowed me to change Felix's name to Not Felix). Click the door and take your pet for a walk outside. Click on any icon to go to a destination such as the stadium or fish pond.

On the top of the screen there are menu options for Free Coins or Pay for Coins. Free Coins takes you to Super Rewards which sounds like it may trigger an avalanche of spam. Otherwise you may have to pay real money for make-believe things. Alternatively, you can accumulate coins through activities like visits and betting but it requires a lot of time and friends. Many of the related websites are mostly Pet Society guides on how to get more coins and friends (such as petsocietynews.com).
