Studies Show Vegetarians Have Better Sex!

The 2009 PETA Super Bowl Ad that NBC banned and refused to run is "Veggie Love - Studies Show Vegetarians Have Better Sex!" (Ah, NBC has such fine moral character and substance.) [click to http://www.petatv.com/swf/video.swf?v=veggie_love_011609_high ]

Studies show vegetarians have better sex? Indeed. Pair the women in PETA's "Veggie Love" ad with any subject and you will attract instant attention. Infuse the visuals with hard, driving, erotic music, overlay it with suggestive, salacious dialogue, and the world will beat your door down getting to it.

Sexual innuendo is an effective, efficient marketing device. In video and pictures, it reaches into everyone and touches that secret place. Sexually suggestive video and pictures compounded by and mated with salacious dialogue - writing - is the absolute marketing vehicle.

Irrespective of political correctness or personal views - regarding vegetarianism, exploitation of women (bodies and minds), exploitation of men (minds, egos, and that part which is hard-wired to unreality), you've got to appreciate PETA's zeal and understanding of human nature. Kudos to PETA!

An accompanying trailer to "Veggie Love" as showing on the PETA site provides "reasons to become a vegetarian." Some of the reasons cited to become a vegetarian are:

- heart disease begins in childhood

- a vegetarian diet reverses heart disease

- meat and dairy make you fat

- eating meat can make you impotent

- Mad Cow Disease is in the U.S.

- it's violence you can stop.

- no one should have to make a living by killing

- the grain used to feed animals could be used to feed the homeless and poor

- you can't eat meat and call yourself an environmentalist

- commerce is no excuse for murder

- you know it's wrong

Not sexy, but nobody wants heart disease or to be fat or to become impotent, do we? And we're all opposed to violence, killing, and murder. Finally, in this greenest of times, we'd all like to think were sensitive to the environment. Even without the direct sex hookup, spliced with the concept that "Vegetarians Have Better Sex," millions will gladly expose themselves to key PETA principles.

For a behind-the-scenes view of the making of "Veggie Love - Vegetarians Have Better Sex," the PETA commercial banned from 2009 Super Bowl commercials, watch "Veggie Love Uncovered." [Click to http://www.petatv.com/swf/video.swf?v=veggie_love_high ] You may discover:

Although the tongue was a scintillating touch, the pumpkin was a little obscure - a little bit of a reach, grasping for - well, pumpkin parts, and didn't quite get there.

Broccoli is hot ! "The first time I saw him, something light on me [SIC] and I think he feels the same way. ...and we've been having this amazing relationship...." The bloom comes off the rose a little though when we discover Ms. Broccoliphile is more than a little possessive.

Asparagus is hottest ! "I love asparagus because I'm kinda into this group thing - the firmness, that's really hot...." For a boost to the asparagus stock, marvel at the intense commitment to vegetarianism in the full-blown Ms. Asparagusphile piece. [Click to http://www.petatv.com/swf/video.swf?v=Asparagus_high ]

"The more, the better - and I can't just choose one... You are what you eat. ...the more I can get in there, the better."

Hedonistic and pragmatic, the message is clear: To be sexy, be healthy.

PETA's 'Veggie Love' and companion pieces are marketing brilliance. Not only did PETA get a rise out of the major media, and jack up attention to their causes by reemphasizing the purported connections among animals, women, and sex, their saturating Internet exposure has been for free! And all the while, they can feign innocence and indignity. PETA certainly knows how to turn a pretty trick with "Veggie Love - Vegetarians Have Better Sex.".

Weird hype. But, then, it's PETA.

Oh my. Little did I realize that the raised bed vegetable garden was really a hot bed. I'm not a PETA supportor(although I don't believe in animal cruelty, just a farm girl) We don't eat much meat but we do eat under a pound a week for two of us. I guess that must mean we're bordering on hot, but can't make it over the threshhold.

I haven't seen this but PETA really knows how to push people's buttons. Great article, Michael. :-)

WOAH! That was one heck of a commerical. You know, it's not like PETA to be so controversial. LOL I enjoyed reading your analysis.

Great analysis and brilliant piece! (^;^)

Great analysis! Veggies and hot chicks are more palatable than some of PETA's more gory shock stuff. Getting a rise out of more than the major media!

I watched the video, and while it seemed a smart way to get people to watch (mostly the men I am sure), it's not appropriate for prime time TV. I love my veggies, but I love my beef more. And I must confess that I don't keep up with what people do in their bedrooms to know if eating only veggies makes for better sex. :)

Brilliant marketing plan! Personally, I wouldn't dream of giving up meat, but that's the kind of girl I am!
