From October 24 through November 3, 2007 customers can round up their total purchase to the next whole dollar, and the change will go towards the purchase of kennels, crates, water, food and pet supplies to assist with displaced and homeless pets at evacuation sites in Southern California.
According to a press release issued on October 24, 2007 by Don Cowan, Director of Public Relations for PetCo and Paul Jolly, Director and Vice President of the PetCo Foundation, semi trucks loaded with supplies were dispatched from a PetCo distribution center in Mira Loma, California to assist evacuees of the wildfires.
The release also states that PetCo, their vendors and the PetCo Foundation have already provided more than $200,000 of supplies to animal welfare centers and evacuation sites in San Diego County.
At PetCo in Sioux City, Iowa donations for the victims of the wildfires have already started rolling in. When customers learned of the fundraiser today, their hearts and pocketbooks were open and ready to help pets half way across the country.
As one customer left the store toting a large bag of dog food, he reminded the PetCo employees that we have to help the pets, because they can't help themselves. Without us, they'd be forgotten.
The PetCo Foundation was started in 1999 to provide education and charitable giving through partner ships with local and national pet-based needs organizations. The PetCo Foundation is no stranger to assisting pets and their owners in times of national crisis. In the wake of the September 11th tragedy, the PetCo Foundation and PetCo stores nationwide began raising money for the K-9 unit of the NYPD. In the aftermath of hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the PetCo Foundation also stepped up to assist with veterinary care of displaced and injured pets.
Donations for the victims of the wildfires in Southern California may be made at PetCo stores across the nation or directly through PetCo's website.
