Petco's Valentine's Pet Party

Sulli
On February 9th, Petco stores nationwide held a Valentine's Day Pet Party for your favorite furry critters. It started at 2 pm and went on for an hour. It was free of charge and a fun event. When we first got there, it was quite busy with dogs and their owners everywhere. I was afraid it was going to be a long wait for everything, but it all moved rather quickly. Hill's Science Diet was the sponsor of this event. They had a table set up with grab bags made up. Each contained a sample bag of food of a new ,all natural product they have out, coupons for future Science Diet purchases, a pamphlet on the products Science Diet offers, and a measuring cup to ensure you do not over feed your animal.

When I first got there, I had to sign in at a table. There I was given a heart shaped dog biscuit to go decorate at another table. It even came in a box so I take it home with me. It was quite a large too, about 4 by 4 inches or so. The table where you decorate the cookie, had Kong brand peanut butter flavored treat spread on it that came in a can kind of like Cheese Whiz does. You could then put that on the cookie and then sprinkled red, white and pink sprinkles on it. Another table was set up to get your picture taken with your pet. You just pose, then the Petco employee snaps a shot with a Polaroid camera and inserts the photo into a paper frame once it has developed. The next table was where you could get your animal's paw print. The Petco worker would take your dog or cats' paw, press it onto a red ink pad and then press it onto a special Valentine's Day Card. My dog's turned out kind of smeared, as did many other's that I saw, but it's the thought that counts. There was even a kissing contest going on that your could enter. There was a limited number of spots available for the contest and we arrived too late to register, but we still watched. One of the managers from the store sat in a chair and the dog or cat that licked him the most, for the longest period of time, won a small bag, about 5 pounds, of Hill's Science Diet food.

I thought the party was a really cute idea and a great way to strum up business for the company. I planned on going there this week anyways to pick up a bag of dog food, so I just planned the day I had to go on the day of the party. It's a nice way for the company to give a little something back to it's loyal customers as well. I am not sure if they do this every year or not because I've only had my dog a little less than a year. We got him 2 days after Valentine's Day last year. If they don't do this every year, I hope for it to become a new tradition.

It was fun. To some people, such as myself, my dog is like my kid, and kids have Valentine's day parties. I also dressed my dog up for Halloween :)

I disagree, this sounds like fun. Would also be fun for parents to take their kids and dog too. I see this as no different than adults dressing up in Halloween costumes...

I know dog lovers might hate me for saying this but can't they think of anything else to do with their time? A Valentine's party for dogs seems over the top to me.
