I have always been a big fan of the King Kong franchise. It's even one of my earliest movie memories. So I was pretty excited when I found out they were releasing the videogame to coincide with the movie.

After seeing the movie and seeing the outstanding special-effects, my expectations for the game only rose. Unfortunately, I was let down. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying this is a bad game I just think it could've been a lot better. It seems like they were in a hurry to get the game out because it's very simple Which, I assume, was to try and advertise to a younger audience to boost movie ticket sales. The graphics are outstanding but the game is really easy and short. It feels like a demo almost.

There are not really any options that you can configure to your liking except for the volume levels and you can switch between full-color or black-and-white mode. The black-and-white mode seems like a really cheesy unlockable for a game. There's not even an easy, hard , or expert setting to change the difficulty. The controls are not really too difficult to master, even for an inexperienced gamer. I believe an experienced gamer could probably complete the game in about 4 1/2 hours. The only way this game might become difficult is if you have trouble using both hands at the same time.

The game itself has two parts to it - one that is where you play Jack Driscoll, which is done in the first-person perspective, and the other is where you play Kong, which is done from the 3rd person prospective. Unfortunately, you play Jack Driscoll more than you do Kong. The bad part about playing as Jack is that a lot of the fights take place in a cave so its easy to get lost and killed by attacking giant centipedes because in close quarters, all the walls look the same.

That being said, you do have a few weapons along the way to help you with your journey. The most common being spears, which are stuck in the ground all over the place, or bones of dead animals, which work the same as spears along the way you find crates dropped by a plane which have either a 45 caliber pistol, a 12 gauge shotgun, a machine gun, and a sniper rifle. All of which are fairly easy to use.

Kong on the other hand is pretty easy to play with but is limited in his movements - one button climbs, one punches and one swings from rock ledges and trees. By far the best part of the game is when you get Kong to the city and you're able to do quite a bit of damage by throwing cars and using cars like a club but even there it doesn't take more than 4 or 5 minutes to make it through the city. And the final scene with you on top of the Empire State Building, you get hit 2 or 3 times and it's over.

Although I liked it, if you're serious gamer who likes a good challenge as well as a good story, then I can't recommend this game for you. As for me, I hope they make a sequel and spend more time on the game features.
