Peter Lynch - an Investing Icon Worth Following

Aaron Smith
Peter Lynch is best known for his tremendous management of the Fidelity Magellan mutual fund, and for good reason. Lynch managed the mutual fund between 1977 and 1990 and the fund averaged a 29.2% annual return, which is unprecedented and almost beyong belief. Peter Lynch did things his own way, and didn't just follow the normal Wall Street pack. The best news is that as an investor you have the ability to follow some of his leads and gain new perspective on the market and how to profit from it.

Why you should follow what Peter Lynch has to say? The first reason is quite simple, he clearly knows what he is talking about. Lynch's record speaks for itself and his ability to pick growth stocks at a relative value to the market is unparalleled in modern investing. Another reason to follow Peter Lynch is that he is a very easy person to follow along with. By this I mean that Lynch has intentionally made his investing style easy to understand for the common person, which allows for a much quicker learning curve. Finally, Peter Lynch has proven to be a very honorable man who is extremely kind with donating that money that was so wisely earned over the years in the stock market.

What are the best ways to follow Peter Lynch and his stock ideas? Simply put Peter Lynch is not the kind of person to expect specific stock picks from, rather he is one that wants others to understand the method to his madness and be able to find the stocks for themselves. The best way to understand the Peter Lynch philosophy of investing is to read his terrific investment books. Lynch has written three books on investing, Learn to Earn is written specifically for teenagers, and is a great guide for youngsters wanting to know more about the market and investing in their future. One up on Wall Street is the most basic of Lynch's books, but it may well be the best of them as well. The book goes in-depth in describing his investment philosophy and gives readers a great sense of understanding that they truly can be ahead of the street if they try hard enough. Beating The Street is the most technical and advanced of the three books, so it should probably be the final read. The book looks at individual cases and examines good and bad trades made from the past.

Peter Lynch's investment philosophy is quite clear; Lynch believes that you should buy what you know and use your expertise to your advantage. You don't have to be a Wall Street analyst to profit from the stock market, and Peter Lynch does a great job of helping investors along the way.
