There were so many places to choose from that It was hard to narrow it down, but we both felt like having brunch or breakfast. Those of you, who know me well, know I can eat Breakfast any time of the day. It was around 4:30 p.m. so I thought this was as good of time to enjoy Breakfast as any.
We happened to run into this place called Petite Abeille on 14th Street. The outside of the restaurant had a menu and right away we noticed that one of their main attractions at Petite Abeille was their Breakfast and Brunch offerings. Their selections included: Belgian Waffle with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce, Smoked Salmon, Tomato, goat cheese and asparagus for less than $13.00. Brunch offers many styles of Belgian Waffles, Omelets, Fresh Blueberry pancakes and even yogurt with fresh berries for less than $15.00.
Before we placed our order I took a minute to really soak in the atmosphere. Petite Abeille is a very quaint café with lovely little bistro tables and chairs that is the perfect combination of intimate and family style dining. When you walk into the Café there is a bar to the left and all you see are fresh Belgian Waffles being prepared right before your eyes and the smell is out of this world.
As you move further into the rear dining space you see more bistro table and chairs as well as interesting artwork and mirrors on either side of the restaurant that seems to enlarge the space. Once I finished admiring the décor, it was time to check out the menu. While we were sitting there we had a change of heart concerning breakfast so we went for dinner instead and opted to start with the butternut squash soup, which was simply divine. The base of the soup was so creamy with just a hint of pepper seasoning served with a large crouton. As they say, "it was like butter" and melted in my mouth.
Next, it was time for the main event. I decided to order one of their signature burgers. It is called Mitraillette "The Hangover Sandwich" and is comprised of a burger sautéed with onions, ketchup and served on a Challah Baguette with Belgian fries. The burger was flavorful and cooked perfectly. The Belgian fries were simply divine and apparently you don't have to have a hangover to enjoy this meal.
Petite Abeille has many other signature dishes that include Roasted Chicken, Lemon Sole, Herb Crusted Organic Salmon and so much more. Petite Abeille is located at 44 W 17th St New York, NY 10011. Give them a call today at 212-727-2989 to book your next dinner party or perhaps surprise that special someone on this Valentines Day with an intimate dinner. The bottom-line. Great Belgian cuisine at a great location and price point $10.00 to $25.00. Bon Appetit!
