Pets 101: Where Can I Find a Pet Sitter in Houston?

How to Find a Pet Sitter for Your Dog

Bobbi Leder
Pet sitters are a great alternative to boarding or doggy day care if your dog would prefer to stay at home while you are at work or on vacation, but finding someone trustworthy can be tricky. When searching for a dog sitter, make sure the person or business you select is bonded and insured. Obtain recent references and/or ask your dog's veterinarian, a friend, colleague or neighbor for a recommendation.

Ask about their others services if you are leaving the house for more than a few days as many pet sitters will also water your plants, take out your trash, pick up your mail, and skim your pool. Some pet sitters will even stay at your house so your pooch is not alone all night. And if you just need someone to walk your dog during the day, they can do that too.

Below is a list of just some of Houston's pet sitters. Be sure to ask which areas they cover and their price for each service.

Tip: Look for someone who is accredited and part of a pet sitting association (e.g. Petsitters International or the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters). If your pet sitter is accredited, it increases the likelihood that they are a serious professional who has obtained a high level of expertise in the following areas:pet care, health, nutrition, behavior, and pet first aid.

Regardless of which pet sitter you choose for your dog, make sure he likes that person and they have established a bond. Use your gut instinct and trust your dog's instinct as well. If you wind up using a pet sitting business, make sure the same person visits your house each time. After all, you will be trusting your fur baby and house to them.

Okay, it is SUSPECTED that she cheated on her husband...just to be clear. But she did ask for a separation via instant message.

I would NOT RECOMMEND FUR-EVER FRIENDS. The owner cheated on her husband and did not bother to even try marriage counseling. In fact, she asked for a divorce via instant message. If that is the morals you are looking for in a person to watch your pet.....

We had a pet sitter a couple of times. So much better than putting pwecious doggie in a kennel.
