Pets at the Pound

I started to volunteer at our local pet pound almost two weeks ago. It is heartbreaking to see that so many cats and dogs, of all breeds and ages, are being turned in because "it takes too much time and money" or because "father died, we don't want his pet" or, better yet, "she keeps getting pregnant."

If you have pets, you know how much love they bring into your life. They love you and trust you unconditionally.

If you don't have pets and are considering one, please check with your local pet pound and adopt one of their pets.

If you don't have a local pet pound, because you are blessed enough to be in a community that takes care of its pets, then please check our local pound website. These pets will love you across county, state, and country lines!

Furry friends watch,
As I walk by their cages.
Waggling tails catch my eyes,
Their stories could fill pages.

Little kittens upward climb
The gates keeping them in.
Their meows growing stronger,
As my pain grows within.

Here comes another one,
Being dropped off to the pound.
"She keeps getting pregnant!"
I stare, without making a sound.

Cats and kittens, dogs and pups
Looking at me they seem to say
"Please, give me a loving home,
Take me with you, this very day!"

A few will be rescued by a group,
Others will find a loving friend
But, sadly, all the remaining ones
To the heavens will soon ascend.
