The Indianapolis Colts have sealed the deal to keep Peyton Manning as an Indianapolis Colt for his entire career as a NFL quarterback. Recently, Peyton signed a 5 year contract with the Indianapolis Colts and has said that he will play his last down as a Colt and that the Indianapolis team will be the only one that he has played for.
Peyton said during contract negotiations that he didn't have to be the highest paid football player in the league and was willing to not be in order to help teammates and the team out with the cap. This being said, all Colts fans knew that Peyton was worth the money that some were suggesting that he would be offered.
Peyton signed a five year deal that offers him a whopping $90 million over 5 years with $16 million to be paid in 2011 and $69 million to be paid over the first three years. This leaves the franchise some money to play with when signing new players and enticing free agents to play for them. After the five years, I am assuming that Manning will retire as he has said he will always be a Colt.
Peyton was drafted to the Indianapolis Colts in 1998 as a quarterback right out of his college career with the Tennessee Volunteers. Manning holds passing records in the NFL and has been ranked as one of the best quarterbacks in the league. He also has led to the team to have one of the highest conversion rates in the league. He is an all-star player and always seems to be the one to rally his team back from any sort of deficit during the game.
Did Indianpolis get this decision right to make it a five year deal and seal the next few years with Peyton? I would have to say that they did! Any Indianapolis fan knows that Peyton seems as though he is often the one who holds the team together and the Colts need him.
