P.F. Chang's China Bistro in Las Vegas, Nevada: Restaurant Review

Richard Banks
In the Las Vegas suburb of Summerlin is classic example of East meets West. P.F. Chang's China Bistro started as a small restaurant in Beverly Hills and now has grown into a worldwide phenomenon.

First Impressions

Although the restaurant is a chain, this particular P.F. Chang's struck me as different. Not structurally, but the atmosphere inside the restaurant.

Wait Staff and Menu

The wait staff was professional in appearance and attentive to our needs. From the initial introduction, the waiter impressed with his knowledge of the meals and the right wine choices to compliment each meal. I had someone in my party with a food allergy and he assured nothing was prepared in an unsafe manner. He also suggested dishes to avoid which could potentially trigger a reaction.

The menu was spectacular. What set P.F. Chang's apart from other Chinese food restaurants in the area was their inclusion of other regional foods aside from Canton. The addition of Mandarin was a welcome change to the traditional offering of Cantonese.

Dinner

Considering P.F. Chang's has locations in Beverly Hills, I was expecting the food to be at the higher end. I was surprised to find out the price was comparable to other restaurants in the Summerlin location. Dinner entrees were in the $10-$14 range, while the remaining dishes were in the $6-$9 range. For a family of 4, expect to pay less than $50 for excellent quality food. Be aware of the 18% gratuity if you are in a party over 8.

Specials

The appeal of P.F. Chang's to a couple seeking an intimate meal is the daily special for two. You will be able to enjoy a four-course meal for $39.95. Items include, but are not limited to the following:

Soups - Hot and sour soup or Egg drop soup

Starters - Crispy green beans, Chang's chicken lettuce wraps, salt &pepper calamari, and Vegetarian lettuce wraps

Entrees - Honey chicken or shrimp, Ginger chicken with broccoli, Cantonese shrimp, and Mongolian Beef

My Take and Thoughts

The appeal of dining at P.F. Chang's is the atmosphere, the traditional décor, and the minimalistic approach to style. P.F. Chang's is not the ordinary restaurant, but borders extraordinary. The time spent to prepare meals and the overall craftsmanship will have anyone coming back over and over again.
