Pharaceutical Companies Selling Addiction-OxyCotin and Pain Killers
OxyCotin- History of Deception and Lies
OxyContin Is One Of The Worst Drug Deceptions
One of the most recent glaring examples of deception is the drug OxyContin prescribed for chronic pain. Put out into the marketplace in 1995, it is still sold by many names:Percocet, Combunox, Roxicodone, OxyContin and Oxyodone. It is 'pharmaceutical heroin'. It is one of the most addicting drugs ever manufactured.
Why Do I State That Pharmaceutical Companies Are Selling Addiction. Let us examine the court records in lawsuits against the manufacturer, Purdue Pharma.
On May 10th, 2007, the top executives of the company pleaded guilty to misleading doctors, patients, and regulators by falsely claiming that OxyContin was less addictive, less subject to abuse, and less likely to cause withdrawal symptoms than other pain killing medications. They paid the government over $634 million in fines and other charges for their fraud. This is one of the highest fines ever paid by a drug company.
Purdue Pharma Made Huge Profits Even After The Fines.
Purdue Pharma has made several billion in profits on OxyContin since its first manufacture. They sold the drug with lies going in from the beginning. Their intent was to get people addicted to boost profits long term. They executed their marketing campaign well and profits soared. With all the deception and lies, they have made much more money than the fines they paid the government. How many lives have been impacted because the doctor prescribed the drug telling the patient it was a safe pain killer. This has been the case for every pain killer manufactured from the beginning. Most of the early drugs came from German pharmaceutical companies. They sold the original heroin and morphine, as OxyCotin was sold, with lies and deception. Each new drug was introduced to the doctors as being safer and less addicting than the previous ones. Then later it was found to be just as addicting as the ones before. The history of the deception of companies selling pain killing drugs is recorded. It is there for anyone to research.
Doctors Are To Blame As Well
Who wins? The pharmaceutical companies, the pharmacies, the doctors all make a profit on your pain. You are the only one who loses. It is common sense that a doctor should deduce that if it kills pain, it probably is addicting. Since all the other pain killing drugs were introduced into the market with lies, wouldn't you question OxyContin? I don't think they really thought it was a safer drug. Logical thinking would say otherwise. The doctors just went along with the program and the profits were great. Then later when the truth was presented in court, they could say, "I didn't know judge". Ignorance is not an excuse. It does not take long to determine that a drug is addicting. That fact will show itself much sooner than the damage some drugs do to the heart or liver. Doctors had to have suspected the truth. They certainly would have known after a short time of prescribing the drug. They prescribed it after knowing the truth.
Patients Are Lied To Constantly on Drugs! Doctors do not take time to investigate the drugs they prescribe. They learn about the drug from the drug rep. Isn't it time they take responsibility for the drugs they prescribe?
Patients are always the ones to suffer in the pharmaceutical lies game.
You may be out of pain, but you must deal forever with the side effects and cost of a life time of addiction. If you were given the truth about the drug, then you made the choice to take it any way. If you took it under deception, then someone should be taken to task on this. You deserve to be given the truth by your doctor.
OxyContin Abuse is Skyrocketing and Death Rates Are Too!
OxyContin is one of the most abused drugs manufactured. According to the National Drug Control Policy, OxyContin abuse in 8th graders doubled between 2006 and 2008. They steal it from their parent's bottles. One single large dose of this drug can kill. OxyContin taken during pregnancy will cause the baby born to be addicted. It may lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature delivery.
As of 2007 there have been over 500 deaths directly associated with OxyContin. There is a website dedicated to those deaths here.
According to emergency room stats, the visits involving OxyContin rose from 4 in 1997 to 9,998 in 2001 to 14,087 in 2002. I could not find any current records since then. That is an epidemic of great numbers.
What Can You Do?
It is up to you to be your own advocate. If you want the truth you must go after it on your own. Do not expect your doctor to know the truth. He knows what the drug companies tell him. It is up to you to investigate the choices your doctor gives you. If it is surgery, drugs, or treatment, investigate it and get a second opinion.
