Phases of the Moon and Magic

The moon has been one of the most influential celestial bodies in the sky since the dawn of time. Mainly the focus of Goddess based religions, the moon has enraptured men's and women's imaginations like no other heavenly body, except for maybe the sun. The moon controls the tides, and therefore life itself. Its' ebbs and flows are said to influence the mind itself, hence the term lunacy. Myths and legends talk of the full moons ability to cause the transformation of a man into a wolf, and runs on the same 28 day cycle as a woman's menstruation. It is widely believed that the moons phases have different influences and put forth different energies during these times. The moon has been used to mark the months. True months are 28 days like the moons cycle; which calls for a thirteen month year, and is more accurate than our current calendar. These months, the word month literally coming from the word moon; mark the festivals and celebrations as well as initiation rites.

As mentioned above, the moon has different cycles that produce different energies. The full moons energy increases psychic awareness, prophetic dreaming, and fertility. This is also a great time for Goddess invocation, illuminating the hidden, and is a time of great power. This is the time to honor the Goddess and give thanks for all Her blessings. The full moon is known to be a great time for charging water, mirrors, and wands with Goddess energy. It is also an excellent time to study and do research.

The waxing moon, from new moon to full moon, is a good time to perform positive magic, work with increases, good luck, growth, love, sexual desire, and wealth; it is a time of inflation. This is the best time to bring things to you and increase your fortune. Known to be when one would start new and positive relationships or business associations, and start new endeavors.

The time of the waning moon, from full moon to new moon, is when destructive energy is to be called forth. Works involving banishing, ridding oneself of negative habits, and removing curses and hexes. This is also when one would use this energy to decrease sickness and pains, remove negative energies, and perform purifications and exorcisms. This is a good time to push things away, and end bad relationships or business associations.

Finally, the new moon, or dark moon, is full of void energy which is non-polar, and defined by stillness. It is the time of darkness, complete mystery, and of unknowable time and space. This is one would delve into the great mystery, or contact the dead. Performing any kind of necromancy would be the kind of magic performed during this time of the month. This is the time of purifying transformation and ritual deaths, before one is reborn.
