Unlike many weight loss pills that are entering the market, Phentermine is not Hoodia Gordonii based, but rather based on the active ingredient Phentermine Hydrochloride. Unlike many weight loss supplements, Phentermine does not contain Ephedra.
The FDA requested the removal of several Ephedra based weight loss supplements from the US market. Phentermine was not affected by this announcement.
Obtaining Phentermine
Phentermine is no longer available online due to the large amounts of fraud and counterfeit pills that were being sold from overseas distributors. Do to the nature of Phentermine it is important that the user consumes appropriate amounts of the medication- obtaining more or less than required will result in uncertain reactions and possible failure of Phentermine to work as directed.
The only way to obtain Phentermine in the United States at the moment is via a prescription from your doctor. If you are overweight or obese this prescription should be relatively easy to acquire.
Common Side Effects Associated With Phentermine
Phentermine is a man made substance, and hence has its own sets of common side effects: blurred vision, irritability, sleeplessness, upset stomach, changes in sex drive, and dry mouth. The appetite suppression also is temporary, and typically disappears a day or so after discontinued use.
Most side effects persist only for a few days. If you are experiencing prolonged side effects, discontinue use and consult your doctor.
Phentermine History
Phentermine remains the oldest appetite suppressant available in the US market, having first been approved in 1959. Phentermine Hydrocholoride, in the form that it is seen today, first became available in the early 1970s for home use. This is the first effective weight loss supplement to be released for residential use.
A surprisingly small amount of clinical studies have been conducted with Phentermine as their focus. In fact, from 1959 to 1990 there were no clinical tests done that studied the long term effects of Phentermine. It wasn't until the 1990s, when Phentermine was combined with Fenfluramine to become Fen-Phen that clinical testing began. Of course, Fen-Phen was never approved by the FDA as a result. Popular opinion was that Fen-Phen was more effective than Phentermine, but it was voluntarily removed from the market when nearly 30% of the test group had abnormal heart valve findings.
Phentermine is still offered on the market today, and it remains the oldest and most established weight loss supplement offered for personal use.
