Philadelphia Phillies Tickets on Sale as World Series Defense Begins

Robert Dougherty
The Philadelphia Phillies fulfilled the dreams of an entire city last year, finally given title-starved Philadelphians a ring. Few cared that it came after a storm that tainted the World Series and the remaining integrity of the postseason schedule, just that it came. Now, the Philadelphia Phillies are ready for a new season, with record setting crowds sure to buy tickets for it. Phillies tickets are now going on sale, with the Phillies obviously set to make even more money from it this year.

The Phillies official website put individual tickets on sale for Phillies games starting at 7:30 a.m. today. The Phillies ticket sales are already setting milestones, as 24,000 season tickets have been sold, providing a 20% increase from last year.

Citizens Bank Park was already a huge home-field advantage for the Phillies, considering its home-run friendly dimensions. Enough tickets were sold through 2008 to make Phillies' fans the 10'th man on the field, as the Phillies did not lose a playoff game at "The Bank" all last year.

With these ticket sales, Phillies' fans are due to come back for even more, as they hope to power the Phillies to another title. They can also get in on games that offer giveaways like Charlie Manuel bobbleheads and World Series pennants - and the ever popular fireworks shows in July.

As the World Series champions, the Phillies will get to host the first game of the season on a Sunday night, April 5'th against Atlanta. Individual tickets for that night are not yet available on the Phillies' website, nor are tickets for a three-game series against the Red Sox in June. For those games, Phillies' fans need to buy season-ticket plans.

Tickets can also be purchased by calling 215-463-1000, or by going to the Citizens Bank Park box office from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m..

The Philadelphia Phillies, despite their substantial home-field advantage, are not quite favored to repeat this year. The American League powerhouses, and the New York Mets, made all the news this offseason and are favored to go all the way.

However, the Phillies locked up all their stars to new deals, so fans can buy tickets and see Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Cole Hamels and the rest for the next three years.

Philadelphia had not had a championship team for 25 years until the Phillies, so the city may already be greedy for another parade. After the Eagles' gut-wrenching defeat in the NFC championship game, Philadelphia is right back to its old barely satisfied self, a condition which the Phillies couldn't quite kill off for good.
