The Philadelphia International Flower Show is the oldest and largest indoor flower show in the world and draws over 250,000 people every year. The theme of the 2010 Philadelphia Flower Show, scheduled for February 28th to March 7th, is Passport to the World, and the Showcase Gardens will highlight flowers unique to six regions of the world.

The 2010 Philadelphia International Flower Show has been designated as one of the "Top 100 Events in North America for 2010" by an elite tourism industry selection committee. The supplement to the American Bus Association's Destination Magazine describes the Show as an "internationally renowned event."

This year's six Showcase Gardens will feature Holland's flower fields and a Dutch street scene, Brazil's Amazon jungle, an Indian wedding ceremony, the orchids of Singapore's botanical gardens, the unique flora and fauna of South Africa, and the earthy beauty of New Zealand's distinct plants and flowers. The entrance garden will feature America's affection for flower and vegetable gardening.

Along with the Showcase Gardens, thousands of floral and plant design entries by local gardeners will be on display, and free gardening presentations and educational displays will explore the newest gardening trends. Presented by national and local gardening authors, celebrities and experts, daily lectures and presentations will cover subjects such as landscaping, flower arranging, deck and container gardening, and pest control.

Other attractions at the Philadelphia International Flower Show are Garden Teas, marketplace vendors and culinary presentations featuring food and wines from around the world. The Garden Teas offer a delightful menu of petit sandwiches, fruit, pastries and fine teas. Shoppers will delight in crafts and products to jump-start the garden. Over 50 vendors have garden furniture, unusual plants and plant containers, cut flowers, garden tools, and handcrafted jewelry. Commemorative 2010 Flower Show clothes and gifts and unique garden gadgets can be found at The Shoppe. And, this year, the World Bazaar premieres, a collection of shops where you can buy souvenirs from around the world. The International Wine and Spirits Garden and the International Dessert and Coffee Bar will appeal to gourmands, and the World Café Live will take visitors on musical journeys to Bollywood, Africa and South America. Visit this site for details on all attractions.

The Philadelphia International Flower Show is produced by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) and presented this year by PNC Bank. The PHS, founded in 1827, was America's first horticultural society, and sponsored the nation's first flower show in 1829. The show has been presented at the Pennsylvania Convention Center at 12th and Arch Streets in Philadelphia since 1996, and the exhibits alone encompass ten of the 33 indoor acres of the Convention Center. Proceeds of the Show support Philadelphia Green, PHS' highly acclaimed urban revitalization program.

Advance General Admission tickets are $23 for Adults; $13 for age 16 and under; and Students (age 17-24) $18. Visit this webpage for exact dates, times and group and box office ticket prices. Information on where to buy tickets to the Flower Show and the Garden Teas can be found here.

It's hard to even imagine anyone thinking about around here, but I'm always inspired when the daffodils start blooming toward the end of February. I'll bet it's neat to walk through there unless you're one of those sinus problem people.
