The 2010 Manayunk Bike Race is slated to take place on Sunday, June 6th. This is a big tradition in Manayunk, and many people pack the area bars or any number of house parties to celebrate the event. This is the largest single day bike race in the United States. It's noted for The Wall, a hilly road that is one of the steepest vertical streets in the city of Philadelphia. The Wall is located on Levering Street and part of Lyceum Avenue. The event starts in Center City Philadelphia, but the best atmosphere is in Manayunk. Here are some tips to get ready for the event.

Get there early!

People crowd the street, especially around The Wall. Many will stay down in Manayunk all night in preperation for the race. So if you want a good spot to watch, you better be prepared to get up bright and early on Sunday.

Take Public Transportation

Septa, the city's transit division, will run extra trains along the R6 route between Norristown and Center City. The train stops right near Main Street Manayunk. Parking is always tricky in Manayunk, but especially so on this day. So do your best to avoid having to drive there and take the train. You'll be glad when you're not waiting in epic traffic or circling the streets for hours looking for spots.

Check out the bar websites

All the bars in Manayunk are preparing for the biggest party day of the year. The Bayou and Cactus join forces to host a huge party for the bike race, featuring great food and drink specials The other bars also boast great specials and events. These events go on long after the race ends.

Check out block parties

The town is full of block parties all over the place. These feature live music or DJs, beer and drinks, food, and other fun activities. Many of the outdoor parties are welcome to all, and its a great way to enjoy a nice day outside. There are also unique events on Main Street such as fire breathers and other fun acts throughout the day.

Do yourself a favor if you've never been and head down to the Bike Race. It's a great event, and a party like atmosphere. Where your summer best, like shorts and flip flops, and set out for a day and night of fun and partying at one of the best events Philadelphia has to offer.
