Philips Go Gear: Small and Light MP3 Player

Jennifer Wright
I am quite new to the world of MP3 players. I absolutely love music and had purchased an MP3 that was very inexpensive. It was a one gig, but didn't have very many features at all. Needless to say I was very disappointed and intended to buy a new one, so I wasn't completely depressed when my 2 year old son broke it while it was plugged into the USB port on my computer.

I told my husband about it and he told me to go ahead and get myself a nice one that could be charged with a cord. So, for a couple days I surfed the internet and finally found a Philips Go Gear HDD1630 at Walmart.com.

I may love music, but I am not the kind of person who needs a huge amount of space on an MP3 player. The Philips Go Gear that I chose has 6 gigs and a 1.5 inch LCD screen. That is more than enough space to hold all the music I want and a screen big enough to its contents clearly.

Its specifications say that it can hold up to 3000 songs or 1600 pictures, of this I am not sure of because I don't have that much music or pictures to put in there, yet. I adore the fact that you can use the sensory touch scroll to wiz through the lists, lists which you can access either by artist, track, album, and genre or by creating play lists. The battery is a rechargeable lithium ion; it plugs into an outlet and has a duel cord.

Another really cool thing about this is that the Philips Go Gear has the special playsforsure feature, so you can be sure about compatibility with the MP3 and WMA files. What I love about playsforsure is that I can download from sites like Yahoo Music, straight to my player.

Even though I don't listen to the radio that much it's a nice little extra that the player has fm radio on it. Actually, there are quite a variety of little extras on it, such as day and time settings, a sleep timer, personalization and the ability to record stuff.

I am really glad that I picked the Phillips Go Gear. It's small and light, 3.1 ounces, but not so small that you can't see what is written on the screen.

I purchased this at Walmart.com for $119.00, not too bad for a 6 gig hard drive. It also came with cover and a really nice set of ear buds; most of the other ear buds I've tried don't stay in my ears.

The Philips Go Gear also has MP3's with larger hard drives and screens. I know I don't need any thing more than what I have now though, now that I have this one.

I love my RCA, only buy an IPOD if you are willing to die for it!
