Philips Sonicare, a Sonic Toothbrushing System

A New, Excellent Method of Maintaining Clean, Healthy Teeth and Gums

Susan Antonelli
With all the emphasis on white teeth nowadays I was extremely interested in the Sonicare Toothbrush. I also recently had a bout with root canal. Although it went well it still was costly and I needed to have a crown adding to the expenditure. Add to this the fact that I have laminates and you can see I'm really focused on maintaining good dental health now. With laminates you cannot use the whitening bleaching systems that are all the rage, so I investigated the Sonicare brush. The Sonicare claims to be able to whiten teeth up to 2.5 shades in two weeks. It will work on tea, coffee and tobacco stains. Sonicare offers a 90 day money back guarentee if you aren't satisfied and a two year warranty.

Having had oral surgery, Root canal, I had to wait two months before using the Sonicare. You also should not use it with Peroxide or Baking Soad or if you do clean your brush with soap and water after each use. It cannot go in the dishwasher. The SOnicare is recommended for people with DIabetes, they need special attention paid to their teeth and gums.

Plaque and gingivitis are two seriously troublesome conditions you can develop if you don't take proper care of your teeth. Good oral health supports good general health. Sonicare happens to be the number one brand recommended by 90% of dentists.Even when using Sonicare, you will still need your twice yearly cleaning an check up but you will have healthier, gums and teeth and whiter teeth.

Plaque is something to be aware of and avoided. It irritates gum tissue and is what causes Gingivitis. Sonicare reduces plaque. It shrinks the little gum pockets where food debris accumulates which also helps reduce tooth loss.

The system is not inexpensive but seems to be a good investment. These kits can go up to $109.99 and then you have the cost of replacing your brush heads every three months for anywhere from $19.99 to $39.99. There are variations of brush heads and kits. They offer the Elite with the ergonomic tapered handle and dual speeds , Essence at $109.00, a quad spacer that lets you know when you should move on to the next tooth while brushing, Advance with dynamiic cleaning action and high speed bristle motion and the Intellicare that dispenses Crest liquid toothpaste via a push button. There is also the Extreme for people with braces, it comes with a two minute timer. I received the Flex Care 900 series through a program I'm involved in and it couldn't have come at a better time.

Sonicare has a contoured brush head with a large variety of brushing options. This version is smaller , lighter and has less vibration than other models. It has three brushing modes and suggests two brushing routiness. If you have sensitive gums or teeth you'll be happy to know that this model is very gentle. You have two different cycles you can use: the Go Care for 1 minute or the Max Care for 3 minutes. Max Care will give you a three minute cycle with a combination of 30 seconds of clean and 15 seconds of massage for each of the four sections of your mouth if you use the maximum routine. If you're in a hurry you can opt for the Go Care 1 minute cycle. It will still clean more plaque than the manual method would if you brushed for 2 minutes.

The whole kit is a brush in a stand. It has a soft grip, a recharge guage, a deluxe charger and charger base with a cord wrap, a hygenic travel cap and color coded rings to identify which brush head is yours.

So, although the initial lay out of money is a bit hefty it certainly is a lot cheaper than what your dental bill will be if you don't take good care of our teeth.
