The conversions from our individual thoughts, opinions and being are usually brought upon us gradually and we don't always recognize them until they are already somewhat engrained in our lives, almost unconsciously. Most all of us have had those "aha" moments when we figure out a behavior or thought pattern really was not of our own making or of our own best interest until something in life has jarred us into a change in our thought patterns that has made us more aware. The over ruling and "go along or get out" changes in our personal identities that were either forced upon us or have been made even with our own permission at the time; are the ones we are usually all too conscious of changing back ourselves when we get to a point in life when we can backtrack and fix or repair what we see fit.
If we give up our personal identity because it seems an easier path to travel upon, we are actually giving something up; whether we consciously acknowledge this fact or not. When we look to society, family heritage, religions, the majority rule, etc. to give us our moral, emotional, being, acting, living, compasses, etc. we are giving up our own personal power to that entity that we deem to have more deity and wisdom than us as our own individual beings. Religions, society fads in any form, political leaders, environmental leaders, scholars, and the like; can be given ultimate charge of our world as we know it, if we choose to all "just go with the flow" of the majority control. There are times when this is the absolute right thing to do and times when it can actually cost an individual their lives or total mind control; it is still up to each individual as they adjust and if they can actually make the choices to either go along or not. Let us all hope for individual freedom to choose!
I have been raised in a generation where I was able to choose my individual path and I am very grateful for this gift. Freedom is a life giving entity that should never be taken for granted and needs to be nurtured and protected; as we are all individuals and all have our own individual experiences in life to draw upon and share!
