Not only are the scents amazing but their products are formulated without parabens, phthalates, GMOs and triclosan. But wait, that's not it. These products are also versatile. You can use them as bath & shower gels, bubble bath or shampoo!
I was pleasantly surprised when I first opened the cap and indulged myself in the sweet aroma. It really does smell exactly like Red Velvet Cake. And if you've never had the pleasure of eating a piece of this Southern favorite, I'll try my best to explain the scent. The red velvet cake is actually a chocolate cake. One of the ingredients used is buttermilk and that's what I mostly think of, a buttermilk chocolate scent.
The Philosophy Red Velvet Cake Bath & Shower Gel is an ultra-rich formula. It's a dark pink color with a pearl finish to remind you of Red Velvet Cake. The wash creates a good amount of suds and even has a light pink tint to them. It cleans really well and washes off easily leaving you squeaky clean. I was really happy how well this worked as a body wash.
As far as using this for a bubble bath I wasn't impressed. I found that the ultra-rich formulas (like this one) don't create a lot of bubbles. I had to use quite a bit of product for just a small amount of bubbles. In my opinion it's not worth it, especially for the price you are paying. I suggest sticking to the high foaming formulas for bubbles baths. It worked okay for a shampoo. It wasn't the greatest but something I would use if I had to. It would be a great product to bring on vacation.
Philosophy probably could have stopped there. They created a wide variety of food scented products that are versatile and safe. But, they seem to want you to have your cake and eat it too. On the front of most of the food inspired scents of the bath and shower gel they provide a recipe for the scent you love bathing in. So, on the front of the Red Velvet Cake is a recipe for it. I haven't tried the recipe but definitely intend on doing so.
The bath & shower gels can be purchased from numerous retailers including Philosophy, Sephora, Nordstrom and others. The prices are somewhat high. As with most products, if you buy a bigger size, the cheaper it will be. If you buy a single wash, depending on the scent it will vary in size from a 2 oz.($6), 16 oz. ($16), 24 oz. ($20), 32 oz. ($25) and 64 oz. ($48).
Overall, I love the Philosophy Red Velvet Cake Bath & Shower Gel. Philosophy has definitely succeeded in capturing the scent of Red Velvet Cake. It's a great versatile product and you if you don't like Red Velvet Cake, you are sure to find a different scent that you love. But I must warn you, if you try one of them, you will be back to get more! I definitely recommend trying this out.
