Philosophy has begun offering products that combine three uses into a single bottle: bubble bath, body wash, and shampoo. This isn't a new thing as many other companies have tried the same thing in the past, but their scents are all brand new. Philosophy has focused on those delectably sweet treats, and sinful desserts that are extremely bad for us. Among those choices are chocolate frosting, strawberry ice cream, and my personal favorite Vanilla Birthday Cake.
There is something very refreshing about the smell of birthday cake, that tends to remind you of your childhood and simply being a kid again. It's a scent I love, and one that I knew I wanted to try after seeing the line from Philosophy. After looking around, and not finding it in local stores, I added a bottle to my recent order from makeup retailer Sephora.
The bottle itself was fairly large and squat, with 16 ounces of yummy goodness inside, and a recipe for the Vanilla Birthday Cake itself on the outside. This is something that I can easily toss inside my bag when I'm on the go, and something that I have on my last trip.
The scent itself isn't quite as strong as I expected, but I'm more accustomed to the Jacqua line of Buttercream scented beauty products. I was hoping that it would smell more like those products did. Philosophy did create something that smells very similar to birthday cake, but it isn't very strong. I've had the chance to use it all three ways, and it does work.
Shampoo.
As a shampoo, I would skip the Philosophy Vanilla Birthday Cake and instead go for a regular shampoo if one was available. It has a nice lather, but it had a tendency to weigh down my hair as well as making it a little drier than usual.
Body Wash.
The Philosophy Vanilla Birthday Cake actually works quite well as a body wash because it lathers so easily. In fact I would be more apt to call this a body wash than a three in one combo.
Bubble Bath.
I could see my self running through this whole bottle simply by using it as a bubble bath. As soon as it hit the water, the bubbles started forming and they lasted a lot longer than most bubble baths do. Philosophy could easily market this as Vanilla Birthday Cake as a Bubble Bath.
Even after using this as a shampoo and body wash, the scent didn't last. My guy noted that as soon as I climbed out of the shower I smelled like "good...like birthday cake or something", but within a few minutes the smell passed. This is something I'll probably keep at home as a bubble bath or body wash, but I'll stick with individual bottles for the rest of my needs.
