Phish Announces New Festival

Newest Phish Festival to Take Place Over Halloween Weekend

John Vann
Capitalizing on a highly successful tour, jam band superstars and members of Phish have recently announced their first Phish festival since the critically acclaimed (albeit slightly disastrous) Coventry Festival on August 14 and 15 of 2004. Now this isn't to say that Phish has completely ignored the growing music festival scene altogether; most recently playing 2 nights at the Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in Manchester, Tennesee on June 12 and 14 of 2009. In 2008, three of the four members even reunited on stage at the first ever Rothbury Music Festival in Rothbury, Michigan - while only three of the members played on stage together at that time, all four were in attendance over the 2008 Fourth of July weekend.

But this newest festival is the first one since Coventry that is aimed at capturing the feeling and excitement of those seven original weekend-long Phish festivals that took place between the years 1996-1999 as well as 2003-2004. And of course it is the first one since Coventry to be hosted by Phish themselves.

However, details on the Phish festival remain really sketchy at the moment - in fact, we don't even have a location. Currently being marketed with a very suspenseful Flash animation, "Save The Date", as its currently being referred to on www.phish.com, the only thing we know for sure is the fact that there will be a Phish festival, and of course, the dates: October 30 - November 1 - Halloween weekend.

Of course, there are plenty of rumors and wild speculation going on through various message boards and discussion groups on the World Wide Web. Some are adamant that the festival will be held in California, or more specifically, the grounds of the Coachella Music and Arts Festival in Indio, California. Others cling to the fact that all of their previous festivals have been on the East coast, and believe that Phish will remain true to their legions of East coast fans; a theory that is supported by the latest rumor naming Vineland, New Jersey as the location. Whatever the case may be, you can be sure that Phish fans will follow.

As you can tell, this is going to be far more than just a concert - indeed; this is jam band history in the progress. Perhaps never before has an event built up this much anticipation in the world of jam band music - and the boys of Phish surely won't disappoint.
