Little known facts

The latin term, "foenum-graecum" means Greek hay.

Hypocrites used fenugreek as a medicinal herb.

In the Far East and in the West, fenugreek has been widely used for its many medicinal powers.

Fenugreek has been called, "The Greatest Medical Discovery since the Dawn of History."

Egyptians brew tea from fenugreek seeds.

Fenugreek is used as a conditioner for hair in India.

Fenugreek is used by many different cultures - from Ethiopia to Turkey - as a spread or in preparing different foods.

True effects

Fenugreek can get rid of sore throats if it's gargled.

Fenugreek can reduce fevers if combined with honey and lemon.

Fenugreek can help treat and heal wounds, boils, and inflammation in its poultice form.

The extract form of fenugreek is believed to regulate blood sugar levels, and reduce the risks of diabetes.

You can even get rid of fatty substances and cholesterol in the body with fenugreek due to its content of lecithin.

I didn't exactly know that it was cleaning out my system or even know that this herb was getting rid of any cholesterol in my body, but I did feel 10 maybe even 50 times better than I did. After reading all that it could do, how could I not give fenugreek a try? I usually get extensive congestion whenever I drink milk. Since fenugreek is supposed to loosen and expel phlegm from the body, it came as no surprise to me that I was no longer having those sorts of problems. Oddly enough, fenugreek can also encourage a woman's production of breast milk.

Disorders, irritations, ailments, and bodily systems treated by Fenugreek

Allergies - An allergy is a sensitivity to certain substances. You can be allergic to everything, from pollen to drugs.

Anemia - Simply put, anemia is a deficiency of red blood cells. This can cause the blood to have trouble transporting oxygen to vital systems of the body.

Asthma - This should be self-explanatory. But in case it isn't, in case you don't know what it is exactly, I'll tell you. Asthma is a chronic disease of the respiratory system that constricts a person's airway. Common symptoms of asthma are wheezing, and coughing.

Blood poisoning

Boils - Simply put, a boil is a swelling or infection of a hair follicle or sweat gland.

Bowel lubricant

Bad breath - This should be self-explanatory.

Bronchial catarrh - Catarrh is a swelling of the mucous membrane that can lead to discharges from the nose.

Bronchitis - To explain bronchitis, you'll have to know what the bronchus or bronchi are. The broncus is one of two tree-branch-like pipes (trachea) that are used to transfer air to and from the lungs. Bronchitis is simply an inflammation of mucous membranes in those pipes.

Bruises - Blood vessels that have become damaged and clotted due to superficial lesions on the skin. But you can also get bruises in deeper areas of the body which are called a "contusion".

Lymphatic cancer - This is a disease we've all been introduced to in one way or another. But hardly anyone ever tells you how it works. Well, let me explain. Cancer is an unnatural division and propagation of cells. Plus, when you get too many cells growing in one place, they can invade and destroy other tissues. This disease can travel to all parts of the body, and form in many organs; such as, the kidneys, the lungs, the bladder and stomach.

Cholesterol

Digestive disorders

Emphysema - This is when you have air in tissues and cavities where it shouldn't be. This is usually categorized as a condition of the lungs, like pulmonary emphysema.

Eyes - Eyes are the spherical organ in which we see through. This organ consists of several different parts; such as, the cornea, the iris, and pupil.

Fever - This should be self-explanatory. But for the sake of argument, let's go into it anyway. It's when the body temperature goes rises above the normal 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit.

Gallbladder - Located under the liver, this pear-shaped organ is essential for storing bile. But, every so often this important organ can be host to any number of disorders or diseases. You can have an hourglass condition in which your gallbladder is divided into two functioning halves. You also have a strawberry gallbladder condition in which the organ's mucosa is red, and dotted with cholesterol.

Gas - Caused by changes in pressure or temperature, gas is simply a vapor or air-like state of matter, different from any solid or liquid states by freely moving, greatly expanding and contracting molecules. If you think that's a mouthful, try reading up on all the different kinds of gasses. I won't go into detail. But, there is many different types, including inert gas, methane gas, laughing gas, tear gas and even water gas.

Gout - If you have gout, you've got too much uric acid in your blood. Your joints, especially in the big toes will have painful inflammation.

Hay fever - An inflammation of the nose and eyes that happens during certain seasons.

Headache - This should be self-explanatory. But if it's not, allow me to explain what a headache is. A headache or cephalalgia is simple a pain or ache in the head. You can have many kinds, including a blind headache or as it is more commonly known, a migraine headache. A cluster or histaminic headache is simply a recurring headache in the area right behind the eyes. Also, there are tension headaches and organic headaches.

Healing - This should be self-explanatory. However, I'd like my readers to know what each and every thing I list is. So, healing is simply the natural act of closing incisions, wounds or ulcers. It's also when you or a part of your body is restored to health or should I say, cured.

Heartburn - This should be self-explanatory. But, let's talk about this problem - if for no other reason - for the fun of it. A burning sensation within the esophagus caused by gastric acid. It's also known as pyrosis.

Hoarseness - It's simply a harsh and grating quality of the voice.

Inflamed intestines - The intestines are extremely long canals in your belly that can be host to any number of diseases; such as, Gastroenteritis or inflammation of the intestines, Ileus or blockage of the intestines, Ileitis or inflammation of the ileum and of course, Colitis.

Problems include scarred kidney tissue, degeneration, abnormally placed kidneys, floating kidneys, stones, and blood deficient kidneys.

Stimulates lactation - A woman's production of milk from her breast.

Liver - The liver is a multi-purpose and extremely helpful organ, but it can be host to a number of diseases and disorders; such as, Hepatitis or inflammation of the liver, Cirrhosis or the formation of fibrous tissue inside the liver, Gilbert's syndrome or the genetic disorder of the bilirubin metabolism, and Glycogen storage disease II which leads to progressive muscle weakness.

Lung infections - The pair-shaped organs in your chest are a necessity for breathing, but they can be host to any number of deficiencies and diseases. You can get black lung or coal miner's, you can get lung cancer, a rheumatoid in your lung, fluid in a lung (pulmonary edema), and lungs marked by honeycomb-shaped cysts.

Living microorganisms that invade the body are infections. You can have a clinical infection in which the infection is so severe that the body starts showing signs and symptoms of diseases. Focial infections are when those little bastard bugs are confined to one area. Inapparent infections are infections that show no signs or symptoms - also known as subclinical. Latent infections are when those little microorganisms can't even be detected by modern methods - the infection can flare up from time to time under certain conditions. And finally, there is terminal infections in which the infection strikes at the end of a disease, typically resulting in death.

Migraine headaches - Simply put, a migraine is a recurrent, intense headache confined to one side of the head. Symptoms are nausea, vomiting and visual problems.

Mucous membranes - It's tough to describe, but mucous membranes are linings for various body cavities, including most of the respiratory system.

Dissolves mucus

Sinus problems - These cavities inside the cranium that is linked directly with the nasal cavity. If you're dripping snot out your nose, that's simply sinus drainage. It's really the opposite of nasal congestion.

Sore throat - This should be self-explanatory. But I think we should describe a sore throat. Maybe I just like to share everything I learn with my readers. A sore throat is a condition leading to discomfort in the throat, especially when you swallow food. It can be irritated and made worse by coughing.

Stomach irritations

Ulcers - You can get ulcers just about anywhere on your body. Ulcers are open sores of the skin, eyes or mucous membranes. They can leave your skin looking like the surface of some dead, alien planet. It's really not something you'll ever want to see. Duodenal ulcers can be found on the first portion of the small intestine. Gastric ulcers are found in the area of the stomach. Mouth ulcers are found in or around the mouth.

Vagina

Water retention - The act of holding onto water in the stomach or other places of the body.
